Default 18' vs. 20' - Opinions Wanted

I've been watching the list & other sources for a 20'CC to come up close to home. A 18' cc was advertised in a local paper today. I wasn't considering a 18'. Besides the 2', what will I miss out on if I go with the 18' over a 20'. I'd appreciate hearing from 18' owners.

Inspite of how it looks on paper: 18 vs. 20, there is only a 14" difference in length. I have had both and find that the 18's have a more "finished" feel to them, with under gunnel rod racks, wider gunnels in the stern, etc.

The raised casting deck on the 20'CC is a bit larger than that on the 18' and has two compartments instead of just one.

Both ride tail heavy and can yield wet toes if multiple people stand in back with the plugs out. A higher floor would have been a plus in either model.

There may be a difference in resale value but in actual usage terms, they are very similar boats. Pick whichever one has the floor plan that you prefer. Beware of any that are being sold with an overly heavy engine, as this will make the water intrusion issue worse.

I personally own an 18. The previous writer is correct in one thing. Over Powering results in a little more water intrusion. HOWEVER, I think the 18 rides a litter better and dryer than the 20. But its strictly my opinion. Regardless of the size, you are buying a Seacraft (better id potter hull) so do not hesitate if the boat suits your needs.
