Default THE HYPE

My Grandfather has been in the boat buisness for over 35 years now. He always told me that Seacraft made one hell of a boat. I figured that they looked nice and were fast so that's why he liked them. I recently looked at a 20' that was sold from underneath of me(really pissed). Anyway this afternoon I was fishing the North Jetty in the Barnegat Inlet for striper's and Blackfish. The sea's were pretty nasty 5-6 slop chop. I was battlin the sea's in my 22 Sportcraft W/A,and then we this guy in a 18 Seacraft come right of bow and cut the waves get right up on the rock's. pull the a 31" striper out then gun the throttle and get out of there before the next wave slamed them. They did this about 4 times catching 2 stripers and 3 blackfish. i stayed outside of the breaker's and got cold while these guys slammed'em. The snuk in i was shocked on the way the little 18' boat handled the rough weather. he only had a 88 johnson. It looked like a surfboard poppin and out of the break. i wanted to puke by days end. I think I wanna SEACRAFT

Capt,

That sounds like a good time for those fisherman. Very interesting how you guys up north fish for stripers. Are you sure it wasn't a 20 ft SC. If I see a 18ft here in Miami I will let you know.

Holy Crap! I grew up in that town during the summers and that inlet is NASTY! Many times the 80ft party boats will turn back with a wind against the tide situation. Even with a SeaCraft under him, that was a ballsy way to fish...but at the end of the day, the man with the SeaCraft was the one with the full cooler.

Barnegat has a rep for being the most treacherous inlet on the Atlantic under the wrong conditions--a strong onshore wind and outgoing tide and you have standing waves that will make your hair curl. But success goes to those who get right up to the rocks, that is for sure. I for one would never try it with sloppy 4 footers rolling in.
