I have the 2001 catolog in front of me, I know that is when OMC made them but I dont think it changed. It shows the 200,225,250 3.3 liter as having only a 35 amp charging system. The amp is 60 amp but is regulated to put out only 35amp, the rest is for the motor. I think that it the exact same now as it was in 2001 just better quality control and testing, I think the only different is Bombarier is using a more aggressive market idea and telling everyone about the 60 amp alt (which is true just not completely truthful). Unless Bombarier changed the alt from 2001 I think that it is only 35 amp. The truth is that at that level it really does not matter anyway. To strain a battery system with the motor running anyway is very hard, with twins it is twice as tough.

The evinrude is a much more powerful motor in the 200 class (3.3 liter against 2.7 liter) but I would say that the weight is what would make me shy toward the yamaha.

As I see it Mercury has a 60 amp alternator. THis is one system that work both the engine plus the onboard systems. Bombardier has a 60 amp alternator. Being a dual design there is more power available for the onboard systems, plus it offers a battery isolator for charging twin batteries. Yamaha offers a 50 amp alternator that works both the engine plus the onboard systems. There is truth to there statement. Like you said they all offer pleanty of amps for todays systems. It all depends what outboard brand you like.
