Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
Any thoughts on Ficht 200 vs HPDI 200? I would like to get some opinions on this comparison. I need to buy twins for my 23' Seacraft CC that was extended to 25'. Price will obviously play a factor but what about these engines head to head.April 15 is coming soon and the Ficht special will be over.
If the cost was the same for the motors which ones would you choose and why? |

Re: Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
I'll have bids Monday to compare the same. If they were the same, my choice would be the Ficht mainly because I have 2 terrific dealers close by and the rebate vs 4 extra years warantee may be tough to beat. Willing advise.

Re: Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
Just some info on the Evinrude/ Johnson special you have to take delivery by 4/15/03 so if dealer has to order it (which most do) Dealer must take warrenty card out and it must be post marked by that date I know i just orderd a 115 Johnson and if you take the rebate you don't get it back until sometime in July JAM

Re: Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
The Evinrude weights 532 lbs. Has a dual Voltage 60 amp alternator. comes with a non declining warry. Yamaha weights 570 lbs. has a 50 amp charging. and has a declining warry.
The Evinrude also has which Yamaha does not 304 s.s. steering arm, closed deck cylinder block, plus a relieved split line gearcase. Evinrude also has Adjustable Cooling water tell-tail, trim limit switch, built in trailer support arm. Yamaha comes with non of these items listed. Plus Evinrude parts are much easier to get then Yamaha parts. At least it is in my area. I would think your local dealer should stock these engines. IF not as long as its ordered by April 15th you will still get the rebate or extra warry. |

Re: Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
The 200 yamaha HPDI does not weigh 570. The 225 and 250 hpdi weigh that. The 200 hpdi is a 2.7 liter which weigh something like 470 lbs vs the 200 evinrude which is 3.3 liter weighs 530lbs. The new evinrude are great but in this catogory the Yamaha is the winner in my opinion. The 200 evinrudes are 225 and 250 just detuned. The yamaha is the same as their 150 and 175 hpdi. The HPDI yamaha are amazing engines. I would vote for them. They will give you better fuel economy than the 200 rude and only 1 mph or so less in speed. I would vote for twin 175 rudes before I put 200 rudes on. The 200 rude is just too heavy, if you go with the rudes then go with the 250s because it is the same as the 200 just a different program. And the 200,225,250 have a 60 amp alt but only put out 35 amp to the battery because the engine takes the rest before it hits the battery. Merc has the 60 amp, yama the 50 amp and rude the 35 amp.

Re: Ficht 200 vs Hpdi 200
Yamaha 200 hpdi is 468 lbs. I am sure the Evinrudes charging system is far ahead of the others. Evinrudes dual voltage 60 amp alternators, one side powers the engine systems and the other powers all onboard products. The other outboards do not due this. Alot of there output is consumed by the engines own system.
