I have a question. I am just learning the ins and outs of this boat and caution will be my first priority, but how far offshore do y'all head in your 23's?
What is the worst seas that you have come home in? How did she handle it? I have been very impressed with the ride of the boat so far, but I am a little concerned about getting caught out in the crud with her due to all I have read about the draining issues and so forth. She was modified when the transom was rebuilt and does have about 1 1/4 inch bailers about an inch above the deck that shoots straight out the back of the boat. The drain plugs in the corners have me a little worried, because if I pull one out, she seems to start filling very quickly.

I've run 40+ miles off in search of tuna, in seas 6+, but the ride becomes beyond comfortable at that point, and being your first boat I would def. exercise caution. Supposedly, last year during labor day when we were looking at 8' on that monday, the only two boats that went out were a 23' Seacraft and a 32' Bertram. Go figure.

77 Nice rig. Really nice.

I have twin 115 Suzuki's that run great on my boat. Never a problem getting on plain even heavily loaded. I have 4 troublefree years with about 400 hours on the motors. Moving up to twin 140 suzuki's would only net you probably 2, maybe 3 mph at best. Yami 150 4 strokes would get you about 50 at WOT. I am happy all day long at 4000 rpm and 25.5 knots at 10.5 gph. My wot is 38 or so knots. I also have a bracket and would definitely recommend one to you in the FUTURE. Enjoy the boat for now. I've had mine going on 8 years and wouldn't dream of trading it in. She's in the shop now getting new paint, rubrail, gas tank, and pop up cleats. Will continue to post.

I think the new name on the transom will look great:

"Stocks and Blondes"

Hey Classic '77, I said hello on THT but did not realize you were the same boat. That is one great ride! Always proceed with caution, but I found the more you use her, the more comfortable you'll get. Your really going to enjoy what she can do! Welcome to CSC and good luck.- PF

Hey you all might have seen where we are having ours rebuilt. I have pics on this site under photo's, it is called "Our 1979 23". We are putting the Hermco bracket with twin 150 Yamaha's. What do you think WOT will be?

SeaMaster,

The origonal SC literature gave a top end of 50mph with dual 150's. Maybe a bracket will add 1-2 mph. Just don't expect an extra 10% like some bracket manufacturers claim. Let us know the day you splash it!
