You are right NoBones, It is AwlFair epoxy fairing compound.
Here are some more progress pictures, this time of the transom cap that has been pre-fabricated. Still trying to catch up to "present day" progress.

The baitwell was constructed as an oval and then sectioned so that the rear matches the transom angle.

The cap was layed up in a jig, and the baitwell mounted along with storage boxes on either side.

After assembly, the storage boxes were insulated with foam.

Baitwell and boxes being faired so that they can be primed and painted.

That's all I've got for today. I'm knocking off early to fish.

Right on. How were you planning to do the hatches for the storage boxes and the bait well. I routed out the openings for the hatches on my 23cc. I then made some small molds for the actual hatches. I wished I had planned ahead and molded in the openings for the hatches instead of routing. It would have saved me tons of time routing, sanding and fairing.

I have a 1979 23 outboard with soft floors and all the usual aging problems. Can you recommend a good restorer in Florida?

boat8, I haven't been on csc long enough to know anyone in that part of FL. Hopefully someone will check out this thread who does.

strick, I plan to cut the hatch and baitwell covers directly from the top of the transom cap. The baitwell and storage boxes are glassed to the bottom, with no opening through the cap yet. This way, they will be a perfect match.

Here are some more pictures to show what I'm doing before the floor goes back in.

The original console was the large one with a door up front and a box in the floor for an optional head. I'm probably going to build a completely new console since it's in pretty rough shape. I've also removed the large box in the floor under the console in order to get a larger fuel tank and a battery box under part of the new console.

The new laminated platform for the fuel tank is being glassed to place.

The beginnings of the battery box.

Once the battery box was initially laid up, we decided the extra room could be used to add a small (7 Gal.) wash down tank. On top of the fresh water tank is a macerator pump that wiil be used to de-spooge the in-floor box which is just in front of the console (it has obviously been removed in these pictures).

Here is another picture after priming. The macerator pump has been removed.

Pictures of the fuel tank in my next post.

I decided to powder coat the fuel tank for extra protection... plus it looks way cool. The welded tabs on the sides are to bolt it to mounting blocks that will be glassed onto the adjacent stringers.

Rubber strips were applied the full length of the bottom using 5200.

Fuel tank and transom cap are trial fit into place.
