It was offered on a local fishing forum. I already had all the rigging so the price was for the motor plus the oil tank and wiring harness. I'd rather have the zuke 140 but for now this will do.

Last December, I bought a new, in the crate, 2003 Yamaha 130 with a 25" leg. I saw 2 such engines over a 6 to 8 week period starting late last fall, so they are available. Prices on both motors was slightly below NADA's average retail used price. During that time frame, I also saw at least 6 or 8, late model, used 130's, but most of them had 20" shafts. All of my searching was on the internet. I also went to the local Yammie dealer a couple of times, and he assured me that he had checked with Yamaha and there were no late model crate engines left. Also, if you need rigging and gauges as I did, I found that I could buy new if I wanted to and still save at least 1/2 off of Yamaha's list prices by careful shopping on eBay and several internet stores.

I saw a Sceptre @ Brendals Dive shop in Green Turtle a year ago that had mint 03 twin 130's. Great weight distribution with 716 lb twins hanging off the back vs. avg new twin set-up being 900 - 950 lbs.

I have recently purchased 1974 18' center consol and it was powered by a 150 hp Merc with a long shaft. The transom is delaminating and the previous owner believes it is because of the long shaft the extreme HP. He says the max rating is for a 135 HP outboard. I don't know where he gets that info, but once I repair the transom, I too would like to know what is a good outboard power package for the boat. I live in Mendocino, California. Thanks, Beils

My 18' had the original factory tag on the console that gave the max HP/weight/etc and I seem to recall the max HP on that hull to be 150hp as it came from the factory. Granted, you'll see them rigged with all manner of power irrespective of what may or may not be recommended.

The 18SF had 150 as the max hp in the Potter era. At some point in the 80's the max was 175, and the tracker 18SF was back to 150. I can tell you that this has been discussed a few years back, here is a thread of interest: 18SF Specs

A 115 was fine on mine, it was a black stack Merc and probably didn't have a lot of torque and it was fine really. So just look for a deal on a good motor 115 or + a 115 will work fine if you find a deal in that range.

I have a mid 90's 130 Yamaha on a skiff that I am going to repower.It has 800hrs,130 to 135 compression on all cylinders and a 3 blade SS prop.You can have it for 2k.
