Thank you for posting the photos which have drawn a number of compliments. I've had 1633 viewers but nobody has called to look at the boat! Times are tough but quality still moves. Any advice?

That's a sharp looking boat, but the price seems a little high.

I bought a similar hull for 3500, and I know a buddy who picked up that same engine on a busted hull, plus a good trailer for 5500. My hull was unblemished (like yours) but he and I both needed to do a similar amount of glass work (close transom, raise decks, build dog house/console).

20K will buy a lot of boat these days. I have no idea what people would be willing to pay for your boat... If you go to nada.com you can add up the parts to ballpark it. Keep in mind that nada is what the insurance guys use for replacement cost, not like kelly blue book or actual resale value.

Also, if it sounds like I am trying to discourage you from selling it (SKIP THE REGULATOR! CLOSE THE TRANSOM AND STICK A BRACKET WITH A 4S ON THERE!), um. maybe I am. A little.

I've been doing well with this rig without a bracket or a four stroke since it was new in 1985. I'm only on my second motor which has low hours and runs strong. I have never had trouble insuring it for at least the asking price. My guess is that the likely buyer isn't looking for a fishing machine loaded with electronics but a near perfect hull that can be updated as necessary over time without a costly rebuild.

Ok, but most guys don't use their boat regularly enough to maintain a carb'd 2 stroke on the new ethanol gas. So they opt for 4s, but with something that heavy on the transom, closing up transom and raising decks makes sense.

In other words, the reasons you want a new regulator over this boat are probably true for other folks in the market right now too... (i.e less smoke and thunder)

Anyway, it is a very pretty boat and the original hardware is very impressive! My suggestion would be to leave it up here, and bump the thread every once in a while. Those folks who care about classic seacrafts in original condition are more likely hit this site than any other... just My 2 cents in response to your query about why there has been lot of interest but lack of bids.

I think you may have yourself priced out of this market right now. Five years ago, you would have a decent price. Just for comparison's sake, I know of a 1977 23 for sale in excellent shape with a nice trailer and a 2002 yami with 250 hours that is sitting still in this market at 20k. People love looking at boats on this site, but I think anyone looking for a boat these days knows if they wait long enough they are going to get a deal.

I think those who suggest price may be an issue are correct.

There is a pristine-looking 23' Sceptre in Clearwater with a half-tower and twin '03 Mercury 225 Offshore EFI 2-stroke motors with under 500 hours each. Boat was struck from behind in a traffic accident back in '02, destroying both motors and the transom. That's when I first saw it at the 'glass shop. During the repair, the transom was raised to 35" to handle twin 30" motors, which were 100 hr demo units from Pro-Line. The hull was painted sky blue at the same time (was white).

It comes with all electronics including a Furuno 24" 2kw radar. The boat has been sitting for sale for over a year at $18K with no takers. I last saw it a few weeks ago, still sitting on the lift with a for sale sign, with the same price as a year ago - $17,995.

I knew I'd get in trouble for missing Mass this morning! How did you know? Seriously, though, you are talking apples and oranges when comparing these two boats. I think my near-perfect 23' Superfisherman is worth far more notwithstanding the repairs and updates to the damaged Sceptre.

You've got a sweet boat there. Aside from the soft market, you are correct regarding Fr. Franks reply- it's an apples to oranges comparison... but not necessarily in your favor.

No offense, but consider the following:
Both 23' Seacraft hulls, yours has a low transom, vs. a professionally done 30" new transom. Ask around what a transom job costs...And what would people prefer...

You have one motor. It's a 17 year old carbed 225 Johnson vs. two 6 year old EFI Merc 225. On the market each of those Mercs has twice the value of yours.

Marine vhf vs. full electronics & Furuno radar thus likely has t-top or arch ...

You have no trailer listed... It's at least 2 K to find a functional tandem, vs. trailer included.

Some folks want a CC, some prefer a cuddy, I'll grant you that CCs have more lookers thus maybe more value but that is buyer subjective.

Finally, you have a very well kept boat with an awesome paint job. But unless a prospective buyer is already planning on re-powering, the power plant is what really brings value and saleability, especially in a tough market.

I mean no disrespect and I hope you can sell it at full price. That bodes well for everybody here; but 19K, with older power and no trailer is what is keeping the buyers at bay. It's also limiting buyers to your waterway. You might consider a trailer credit or something...Just my 2 cents.

It truly comes down to price. If you are not getting any calls your price is to high.

Bring down a notch and see if the calls start coming in.

Check out the Miami Craigslist and you will see why it is supply and demand.
