You should look up Strick then! He's should be somewhere in there I believe. You are better off than where I am. Mid 70's today but may hit 90 on Saturday. That's when I head to the water/coast to escape the inland heat!

I think Strick is in Northern California. I'd love to but that drive would keep me from seeing my sister and nephew, who I never get a chance to see.

I thought Petaluma was North of San Fran? Well anyway, welcome!

A translation for all of you who missed the nuance:

Chance said
Plane speed is 12-14 knots or approximately 14-16 mph.
Top speed is 28 knots, or 32 mph
Cruise is 20 knots, or 23 mph.

While all should be slightly higher, those are pretty good numbers considering the prop depicted.

Gillie, you're right on about the prop blade design in a 3-blade, but I wouldn't want to recommend a pitch til I knew the rpms at each of the above speeds.

Also could be Chance would do well with a 15" four-blade such as the new 13x15 SCD4 series semi-cleaver stern lifting prop. Local here with a Chaparral 198 Fisherman with an late 80's Johnson 120 Looper claims plane speeds down to 14 mph, cruise at 25 mph at 3900 rpm, and WOT of 36 mph at 5600 rpms with that new 15"P SCD4 prop.
That boat empty is 2040 lbs.

I will have to get those rpm numbers as soon as I get back to the east coast. If my tack is accurate, I don't think I'm getting max rpm at wot with the current 17p prop. I'll have to check the book I bought just before I left, Ireland what wot should be but can't remember for this engine. I am very anxious to get back and would appreciate if no one from cape cod posts any pictures of stripers until I get back. Thanks frank

Looks like you have your shift cables hooked up backwards, looks like you are having to put the shifter in reverse to go forward. Being as such, your engine is most likely not achieving WOT.

you are correct Sir, i did have them backwards at first, i have since fixed that and turned very similar numbers with the throttle correct. I will see what happens with a new prop in about a months time. I'll also check my tach against the flywheel to ensure it is accurate. i'll pass on the findings and numbers when i get back to the east coast.
