What are the overall dimensions of the door?
Dave
36-1/2" Tall

23-1/4" Wide at the top (Can be up to 23-5/8" if fiberglass inner liner spreads, and that is pretty common)**

20-1/2" Wide at the bottom **

** Remember, the SST hinge to the boat accounts for about an additional 1/8" to 3/16" of the door rough opening.

Floorboy has claimed the Louvered Cabin Door that I recently made.

If anybody else is interested while I have time to make another, speak up now. Boating season in South Carolina is coming soon and I will be on the water and not in my shop.

The wood shop is now "open", orders welcome.

My door has cracked thru at the bottom of the dovetails on both sides at top and bottom. I glued the cracked pieces with epoxy, but also installed a couple of 3.5" SS screws at 4 locations from the sides and covered with teak plugs. Seems to be holding up ok so far.
I agree, thats a good idea. I also use SST screws (see below) and plugs in addition to the Dove-tail joints on my "new doors" to keep everything firmed up. It also reduces the chance of the dovetails starting to crack and open up in the future. Once they start splitting is hard to stop them....

Looking good, Jim. I can't wait to get it. But I have one last request. I noticed there's some nice variation in the grain of the wood. If it's not too much trouble, could you arrange the louver slats so the grain forms a likeness of the Virgin Mary, or maybe Elvis? But only if it's not too much trouble...

custom high end wood work should get paid no less than $35 hour from a business standpoint. as for wood, try buying from a wholesale place instead of surfaced 1x4 (or 6 or 8). i buy all wood from wurth wood group, they are all over the east coast. it comes surfaced or rough, in 4/4, 4/4, 6/4, and so on. you generally get one semi clean edge, and can rip the other one, then plane both to get clean sides. if you are building doors like this, you have all the tools to do this. doors look great by the way, i considered building a set for my console locker, but for all the reasons you illustrated, i didnt.

Boy, am I getting Underpaid!!!

At that rate these should sell for $850.

I think I'll stick with around $400, and make them affordable to all that need and want them.

Oh well, back to the woodshop to work on Blue Heron's door....

Dave, after conversing with Jim today, he said as hard
as he tried to honor your wishes the grain still came
out with the likeness of Obama..

The "Seafari" will have that authentic look...

See ya, Ken

Jus' kiddin' guys...
Keep up the good work Jimbo!!
