Default I've died and gone to heaven!!!

At least it seems that way after I bumped into this site. I was up until 0300 this morning scrolling through the debates, discussions and other information. This site is the mother lode of info for the SeaCraft owner! I have a 1973 20 foot CC with a 1996 150 Johnson FastStrike on the stern. The boat was not purchased as a project boat but has developed into one. I've replaced the transom and refastened the hull and deck all the way around. I'm on the verge on embarking on a number of new projects (new hatches forward, new CC, bottom clean up, etc) and wasn't able to find ANY info on this hull anywhere...until now! Thanks to all who maintain and contribute. I can't wait to read every bit of this stuff, drool on the pictures and contribute when I can. I'm located in Duluth, MN on the shore of Lake Superior. Anybody else out here in the Midwest?

Later,

Scot

Scot,

On behalf of the over 450 members of ClassicSeaCraft.com, I'm pleased to welcome you to this forum. As you have already found, this site is indeed a wealth of knowledge (if not all of it) on SeaCrafts of every model from the first few (late 60's) to the current models. Fortunately you have one the original Potter hulls, as some of us get a little sh't for owning a later model.

Using the search feature will answer most of your questions, but don't hesitate to ask any new one's, as everyone benefits.

As far as I know, you and I are the only members on the Great Lakes, which is a terrific place to have one of these great hulls.

Please tell us more about yourself, how you like to use your boat and post an image or three of your 20CC.

Don't be alarmed by the "characters" on this site. They're pretty harmless. Just mention beer and everyone's on equal ground...

Regards,

Otto

I knew another Seacraft from the Great Lakes would turn up. You would think there would be a lot more than 2 considering how many people boat up that way.

Welcome aboard.....

Hey boys, thanks for the welcome party. Please find attached an e-cooler full of e-beer as a token of my appreciation to the warm reception!!!

I’m a first time SeaCraft owner who will never look back at the 17’ Montauk that I left behind. I run the boat primarily on Superior chasing Lakers and Salmon and doing weekend camping trips. I’ve got downriggers and a planer tower on it for the fishing bit and I’m getting a full enclosure done this month. Should be an all weather vehicle once that gets done. We head out to Isle Royale National Park a couple times a year, about a 55 mile run one way, and spend some time on the Canadian side of the lake. The remainder of the time is spent hunting Musky on the smaller lakes across northern MN and WI. This boat is VERY unusual in the land of aluminum fishing boats. I get plenty of odd looks from the Al crew but the boat creates a lot of interest and guys are blown away at the boats ability to weather just about any seas.

I began boat hunting two years ago and my dad suggested I look at a 20’ SeaCraft. I found NO information anywhere on the net to help in buying this boat. I wish I had found this site sooner so I could have saved myself a little pain. Anyway, I found a boat in Seattle that appeared to be in good shape...1973 hull with a 1996 Johnson Faststrike and nice tandem aluminum trailer. Professionally surveyed and given a passing grade. Bought it, brought it home and, while mounting an auxiliary motor bracket, found the transom was rotted out. Also, on a particularly rough run home on Superior, discovered the deck and the hull were not attached…the perfect project boat!!! We’ve replaced the transom (paid to have that done actually) and refastened the hull/deck. I still have a laundry list of projects that I was wavering on because I wasn’t sure how to proceed. I can’t wait to store the boat this winter (yeah, winter up here in MN) and tear into her.

Well, that got a little wordy but thanks again for the welcome party. Once I figure out how to post pics of my bright yellow girl I'll send 'em up.

I passed through Duluth last April, by car, and stopped at all the beautiful mini-marinas on Lake Superior, and no one was in the water because there were huge chunks of ice floating around the ramps...totally different than what I experience here in Miami... -I am in the process of restoring a '1966 I/O (it's somewhere between 20'-22' Good luck with your 20' - aaf
