Re: Pulled the trigger
Rich there's nothing like a new engine on the back of a boat congrats! Put lots of hours on it right off the bat. I got mine July 3rd. and it has almost 70 hrs. on it. Dealer said the average on the Cape is 50hrs. per year so thats only 150 when the warranty runs out! I figure the more I get on it before the warranty is up the better. I think you'll like the Ficht, run it seven days a week for the rest of the summer When you did your transom if I remember right you used 1/4 luan with roving inbetween? I think when I redo mine I want to use the same method. How long did it take to lay up? Good luck with the new engine Jon

Re: Pulled the trigger
Doug, just this weekend I brought the motor home with me(I live in Cutler
near Machias).I am set up in the Portsmouth area for tax reasons but the drive is killing me to do business down there thats why I'm on ebay. I will not be down that way until after the auction. I have another one in Portsmouth but the warranty expires 4-04 which is also new in the crate. These I've been selling for $7900locally. I have/had been advertising in the Mass. Want Ad and the Uncle Henrys. The driving is getting to be too much. Justin |

Re: Pulled the trigger
Now I'm confused..... Doug, I'm assuming your first post was an email that Justin sent you?
That was the guy. He has a 250 up on Ebay, and another available in NH. Nice guy. He had the 225 that I got in his truck when I met him. I had a bank check on hand and some extra cash, done deal. [ August 10, 2003, 09:24 PM: Message edited by: Rich ]

Pulled the trigger
While you guys were enjoying the festivities in Newport, I was on the road to NH to buy an engine. After two years of saving money to purchase a new engine from either a local dealer or having one shipped up from VA or FL, I found a 2001 225 30" shaft Evinrude ficht still in the crate. It has a warranty until the end of August 2004. I have been following the discussions on this board and others to try and determine what would work best. I was leaning towards the Evinrudes all along.
The 2001 Evinrudes have the same block as the new ones, but have had some issues with the gears in the lower unit. They say that any problems that might show up with the lower unit usually happen within the first 50 - 100 hours. If so Bombardier will replace the unit with a new one. The deal was spur of the moment, and I think I got an awesome deal. (I hope) Brand new in crate $7300 to good to pass up. Back to sanding……

Re: Pulled the trigger
Rich, Nothing wrong with that price. I Sold a new Johnson 200 carbed 2001 a year ago and it cost $7300 dealer net. You got a great deal.

Re: Pulled the trigger
Jon G,
That was the method that I used. Six sheets of epoxy soaked 1/4" luan with biaxial cloth in between each sheet. Works great. Lay up time depends on what you use for saturating the cloth. I can tell you that you need more than two hands, and you have to work fast. Rich

Re: Pulled the trigger
I'm not worried about help I have lined up a couple of unsuspecting helpers and by the time they figure out what they got in to I will have the garage chained shut until we're done
