thinking of bumping up to a 23...any thoughts?
Hello,
I have a sweetie of a 23...new transom and floor new belly tank and more. However, due to a serious case of wonderlust, I want a 23. Before I commit to this decision, I just want to hear what you folks have to say about 23's and 20's. has anyone owned a 20 cc and moved up to a 23. What did you gain what did you loose. What were you most happy with and what did you miss. anything related will be helpful with my decision. Thanks! |

Plus- more deck space and storage, way better ride. Minus- need more power=increased fuel consumption.2 totally different boats.

that info is helpful. How about things like draft, maintenace costs and other things I should be looking out for. How for out do you take your 23's?

I had a 23 in North Carolina I took out 50 miles to a place called Big Rock off Atlantic Beach. I would not hesitate to fish that boat anywhere

I don't think there's a big difference in the upkeep cost between a 20 and a 23.A 23 is a heavier, more seaworthy boat. The fuel capacity is about double, so they have more range.

Ha Mada
The first question you want to ask your self is what are you going to use your boat for. I wouldn’t want to fish a bass boat in the middle of the ocean and I wouldn’t want to fish a 32’ for bass. If you boat/fish in the bay and close to shore you already have a great boat to do that with, but if you like to range farther off shore then the 23’ would be a better choice for you. That’s why some guys support the 4 boat theory they live it all. I love fishing off shore so I have the 23’ I went Sword fishing Saturday night and was 25 miles off Miami I wouldn’t want to do that with a 20’ for the rest of your questions bigger truck, bigger motor, upkeep etc. well that’s the price your pay. How much water do you guys draw in your 23's? I'd hate to totally loose bay fishing If I go up to a 23.

Mada,
You may have seen my post on another thread. If you move to a 23, which I have, you'll need a full size truck. I also have a 20' Seafari that tows well with a V-6 mini van. The 23' is a WAY different ride, just amazing compared to a 20 or any other 23 for that matter. Around here, we don't mess with water less than 2-1/2 or 3' because of ROCKS! I love my 23, but just bought a new Boston Whaler 16' Dauntless CC. I love it's portability and fuel usage with the 115 4 stroke. You have to remember, I started the 4 boat theory!
