So goes another American company. Like the 3 litle pigs the former employees can cry "OUI, OUI, OUI" while they stay at home............

Rusty if Bombardier did not step in and buy the bankrupt OMC then the old employees of OMC would still be out of a job. Now that it is owned by the family and a two others, things will only get better for the Johnson and Evinrude line up. Did you know that this division had to give a check to the avation division of the company for over 800,000,000.00 last year. Think this year the money will stay with them. Things will only get better with this company and it is giving many Americans jobs.

Joe, I'm just whining because I'd always considered myself an "OMC man". Ran an old '86 110 until about 2yrs ago. "Boatless" since until just recently. My dad was a liftime boater and OMC guy too, so I grew up around them. I didn't follow their demise. Was their product not competitive, poor management, lousy finances, or a combination? Hopefully, they'll bounce back and make good stuff at reasonable prices. Howard

OMC screwed alot of people. Even being a dealer we were glad to see them go. There are alot of OMC dealers that lost everything when they folded up. Being a OMC dealer since 1971 they went down hill in the mid 90's. The Cobra sterndrive cost them alot of money in the 80's with a ton of problems. The Ficht engine in the 90's cost them a ton of money. I think it was a little of everything that put them under. Bombardier is so much better dealing with then the old company. We to are still Johnson and Evinrude men. We still call it OMC. It is a very hard habit to break. And its a good thing due to the Bombardier name will be changing. THe outboards will still be branded Johnson and Evinrude.

I may have breezed thru the artical and didnt pickup what you gentlemen did.
Is it possible that this is the end of the bombadier/omc partnership and with the parent company "re-directing efforts and resources" the end of John/evenr?? When you talk about Johnson/Evenrude.. man....its as american as apple pie. |

Roland, There was never a partnership between the 2 companys. OMC went under and Bombardier purchased all the assets of OMC. The Johnson and Evinrude names will not change.
