Default console sizes

Greetings all,

Does anyone know the history of the different console sizes for the 23sf? It seems like there are two different ones, the large one and the small console. Was the large console an available option or was this a design change incoporated into different model years?

Thanks

I have a 78 23'cc it came with the "super console" I looked at a '77 before I bought mine and it came with a much smaller console. I like the superconsole because the front seat swings out opening up the entire inside.

HA DEEPSUSHI
I HAVE THE SUPER CONSOL AND LOVE THAT DOOR IN THE FRONT. HOWEVER I HATED THAT LITTLE SEAT THAT WAS ON THE SWINGING DOOR IT DIDN’T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME SO I CUT THE SEAT OFF THE DOOR LAMINATED GLASS AND FAIRED IT TO BE A FLAT DOOR. NOW I LOVE IT AND AM ABLE TO GET TO THAT HATCH DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF IT. THE PREVIOUS OWNER CUT THAT HATCH IN TWO JUST TO GET TO IT. I PUT THE HATCH BACK TOGETHER AND NOW I HAVE HINGES TO OPEN IT FROM THE SIDE.

I also have the large console. Its what came with the boat and I like it, Large enough to hide behind in the weather. The only thing that might not be that great is that it takes up more space inside the boat. Inside the console is alot of room and very easy to get to the back of the dash. I also have two doors, the one with the seat and then one that is flat.

Fellow-Ship my hatch also was split and hinged (I think this was the original design) and I'm thinking of doing what you did...(like Steve's boat). I was even thinking of making that hatch like the Silverhawk, where it opens where the hinge was (from the middle of the hatch)
AS for how you got the large or small one originally good question.

Mine also has the large console(78) and actually came with a very high tinted windshield that I had cut down last season because it was difficult to see thru running at night. 8" or so now. My hatch is also split , and looks to have been standard. Craig

Unfortunately, I don't own one yet!! I have been looking for quite some time, but have not quite been fast enough!! I missed out on a gutted 23 io for 3000 last summer. I was the second guy who called about it but, the first guy bought it (surprise... surprise).

I am really looking for the straight inboard version and I wish I hadn't been out of the country last week or I might have had a chance at the one on boattrader last week.

The pursuit continues.... so for now I have to live vicariously through you guys....

Aw man, I'm sufferin from little console syndrome.I do kinda like the original teak louvered doors, but would like a little more storage and shelter - the thing is tiny.Guess that's why they make Helly Hansen's, huh.Plus it's not the size of the console it's how ya, aw never mind !

OK, Im confused here.Is the small console the one that comes with the seat built in.Correct me if im wrong the large console does'nt come with a seat but has the large door that gives you access to the bottom of the console? I was told that the hatch underneath the console was used to hold a toilet? Thanks RS.

RS

Your right about the consoles....The smaller one has the seat molded into the console and I believe is a little shorter in overall hieght. Take a look at Bill Sirotnak's pictures. The larger console does have a large door in front of the console that opens and exposes the entire backside of the dash and inside of the console. On that door is a molded in seat. (I also received with my boat a flat door with no seat....which I like alot as it gives me a little more room up front). In the console I believe that there were different setups. Again mine, 1976, does not have a hatch that exposes the bilge area. I just have a flat deck inside the console. I'm planning on either moving the fuel tank a little bit forward into that area or putting a removable hatch in there for added storage. Right now its a 30" x 30" hole thats not being used....I'll fix that

Hope this clears up you question
Scott
