Re: STEERING KNOBS
backing & filling, pivoting the boat on a fish, any time you need to do multiple wheel turns to maneuver. Set up with a tilt wheel so you can set the wheel horizontal and its unbelievable. try it. First used by single-screw sportfisherman needing quick rudder movement so that one can kick the stern port or stbd with a quick hit of fwd throttle against a hard-over rudder.

Re: STEERING KNOBS
The downside to them that i have found is hitting a wave and cracking tour pubic bone against the knob. That really hurts. Have done it several times.

Re: STEERING KNOBS
I have to agree with Tom, the knob is fantastic and once you try/get one you will always want one and really notice the difference when you steer aboat that is lacking one.
Unfortunatly I also agree with Dunc, it still hurts!!! With Hyd steering the knob creeps in position so keep an eye on where it is when you are running in any chop. |

Re: STEERING KNOBS
I agree with Trayder.....You feel lost on a wheel without one once you've used a wheel with one...I've noticed that when running a boat with the knob your hand migrates to the knob automatically....
I've seen the wheels with the knob mounted on the rim of the wheel....but I've started to see the knob inside the rim on one of the wheels sprockets ( I guess thats what you call it)...and like Tom says you get awesome response out of the boats steering Wished it was around when I was running some of the bigger boats …would have worked great for dodging lobsterpots and garbage that sneak up on you. |

Re: STEERING KNOBS
THANKS ALL:
NOW I HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE KNOBS. SOUNDS LIKE MOST ARE BEING USED ON LARGER SPORTFISHERS. I ONLY HAVE A 23 AND GREAT HYD. STEERING. BRIGUY; BY THE SOUNDS OF IT THE ONLY THING I HAVE TO LOSE IS MY BEST ASSET AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT WITHOUT BRUISES. WHAT WOULD MY WIFE THINK. |
