Default Starting to rebuild

I've just replaced the tank and wiring in my 87 23'CC. The old twin 200's are gone (sunk twice). How does the Yam 250 push? Looking for a leaning post and T top. Boat is in ST. Pete now but heading north soon. any ideas on where to look for these. What has everybody been doing with the old teak?
Lastly, any comments on the new 25' in rough water.

Thanks

Hi Bill and welcome to the site!!

Dont know how far your willing to travel or what you want to spend for the top and post .... But there is a guy in Toms River NJ that builds phenomenal tops and leaning posts...They are a little pricey ... but very nice ( this guy builds the towers for all the really nice sport fishing boats in the area). Actually the t-top are used on Silverhawk boats....which essential is the jig that’s used for the older SeaCrafts with the larger consoles. Apparently Silverhawk may have modified the older console and "tweaked" to their liking, with no major changes except for cosmetics. The Top is a hard top with a molded in radio box and includes a rocket launcher (4 pole) races for lighting etc...the other nice thing is they have been designed such that there are NO cross bar supports tying into the console, just open air. The leaning posts are just as nice....

What happened / what did you do with the 200's....what year were they??
Scott

BILLC:

Just wanted to welcome you to the site.

I would think a 250 hpdi would be a fine addtion to your 23. I understand their much better than the 4 strokes. more 00's and don't dump gas & oil into the water like the 4's do.

I got my leaning post from a boat yard that sells regulators. It came through with plan alum. legs and the owner wanted one that had white legs to match the rest of the boat.

Most of the teak that I have seen has gone the way of your old 200's. out!

t-tops, sorry, I like dog houses. can't stand the wind in my face.

New 25's , I guess I'll never know, unless I fine myself an old one to do over. don't tell my wife, that's the next one I'm going after.

Hey Bill, My 23' 1979 Sceptre will cruise at 43-44mph at 4900 rpm with my 250 Merc and top speed is 50-52 (depending on load) at 5700rpm, play around with some different size and pitch props, a local prop shop or a good mechanic may lend you props to test. Also I took all my teak off and power sanded (started with coarse then finished with fine) the 20 years of grey off and used "Golden Teak Oil" from boaters world. It looks great.

Hey Bill, welcome. To answer your question, a 250 )any one) will push that just fine, and of course everyone has their own brand preferences, but if I were to repower new, I'd go with a 250 Ficht and if someone else were paying for it , I'd go with the new Honda 225.Mine's a 73, and I still have the teak louvered doors in the console,I like the look and just clean it and oil it once a year.I'd like to know how yours sunk, twice ? I was getting some parts for my Old 225 Rude, from a mechanic I've known for 30 years, he says "what are you hanging that thing on " a 73 23' Seacraft I said, "best riding boat, but their sinkers" he says.So I'm curious how yours went down.

Bill-Welcome! Regarding the info. requested on the tops and leaning posts-try calling Birdsall Marine Design out of West Palm Beach, FL.561-832-7879. They built the leaning post on my 1989 18'. It appears to be a factory installed seat. They advertise in Florida Sportsman and I have seen Boat Trader ads that comment on this company when selling their boat when it has a tower/top/leaning post. Good luck.

Billc,
Try Don's Salvage in Clearwater for the T-Top. It's on 126th Ave just West off 49th St. He has a pretty wild varity of stuff. Lots of stainless odds and ends. Might find something there, if nothing else it's fun to just walk around.
