Put her on the trailer

HA TRAYDER
I WAS TOLD BEFORE I STARTED MY PROJECT THAT IT WOULD COST ALMOST TWICE AS MUCH AS WHAT I THOUGHT AND TAKE TWICE AS LONG TO FINISH THEN WHAT I PLANNED I JUST SMILED AT HIM. WELL HE WAS ABOUT RIGHT. THANK GOD THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST BOAT RE REDO. I ENJOYED MOST OF THE WORK AND NOW I REALLY ENJOY TAKING HER OUT FOR A RUN. I NOW HAVE 45 HRS ON HER AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY NEXT FISHING TRIP. I KNOW I COULD NEVER MAKE ANY $$$ DOING THIS TYPE OF WORK I THINK THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN MUST SKIP A LOT OF STEPS OR CHARGE REALLY HIGH PRICES. I WILL SAY THAT I GET A LOT OF COMPLEMENTS EVERY TIME SOME ONE SEES THE BOAT AND STARTS TALKING THEY CAN’T BELIEVE IT IS A 1977 HULL. I DO HAVE A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT WHEN I LOOK AT HER OR WHEN SOMEONE STARTS TALKING ABOUT MY BOAT AND THAT WILL LAST A LIFE TIME. JUST KEEP ON SANDING, SANDING, AND SANDING AND ONLY LOOK AT THE WEEKS PROJECT SOMEDAY THIS WEEKS PROJECT WILL BE TO SPLASH THE BOAT.

When are we going to be able to see some pictures of your completed boat? I forgot that the original color of your hull was red. What color is she now?

I HAD A FEW GUYS ASK ME HOW MANY HRS IT TOOK ME I TOLD THEM FORGET HRS. I GOT 150 DAYS INTO THIS BOAT. I PAINTED THE OUTSIDE SIDES OF THE BOAT A AQUA MIST (LIGHT BLUE GREEN) THE INSIDE SNOW WHITE AND THEN THE BOTTOM WAS WHITE GEL COATED. I STILL HAVE A FEW MINOR JOBS TO DO YET, BUT I HAVE TAKEN SOME PICTURES. I STILL GOT TO DO THE HAND RAIL AROUND THE BOW. I AM INSTALLING A TACKLE BOX UNDER THE CENTER CONSOL UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AND ALSO A HATCH DOOR NEXT TO IT. I HAVE ROOM FOR BOTH THE TACKLE BOX AND HATCH THERE. I HAVE SOMEONE MAKING A FULL COVER FOR THE BOAT NOW OUT OF SUNBRELLA. I AM GOING TO PAINT THE OUT SIDE OF THE BOAT ONE MORE TIME TO MAKE IT 3 COATS (NOT FOR A FEW MONTHS) NOW RAINY SEASON. PLUS I HAVE TO SAND THE GEL COAT TO MAKE IT SMOOTH AND THEN WAX. ALL THESE ARE PROJECTS I CAN DO WITH OUT INTERFERING WITH MY FISHING. THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES ME WANT TO HURRY UP AND DO THEM NOW IS THAT I TOLD THE EDITOR OF THE FLORIDA SPORTSMAN I WOULD TAKE HIM OUT AND HAVE HIM DO A ARTICLE ON THE BOAT SOON. I WILL SAY NOW THAT I AM NOT ON THE TIME CLOCK OF GETTING THE BOAT READY FOR MY PAST KEYS TRIP MY APPROACH TO BOAT WORK IS NOW MORE CASUAL.

OH BY THE WAY. I STATED THE MY BOAT IS A 1977 IT REALLY IS A 1976 MODEL (ID ON THE BACK OF BOAT) BUT THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REGISTERED WAS IN 1977 THUS ON MY TITLE IT SAYS 1977

I reached a point where I was unable to continue work on the 20 because I was unable to get to the otherside of the boat while she sat on the floor in my garage.

My neighbors once again think I am looney as I backed the roller trailer to the bow of the seacraft and winched her on. It looked as though my house was the proud mother of one mean looking boat as the hull emerged from the basin.

Anyhow It is refreshig to have the boat on the trailer and off I go to work on the other side.

Fellowship- please tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel??? [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

Good work Fellow Ship - like everyone else, I'm dying to see pictures too... If you have some, e-mail them to me and I can put them up...

Trayder - I was thinking last night, that new trailer that you have, is it going to be long enough to be useable if you mount the motor on a bracket? Any new pictures from your boat? I got your message and I'll give you a call today, I was working at a job site yesterday...

Trayder, you must keep dreaming about running WOT through an early morning slick calm sea, blasting down past Fort Adams on the way to catching some fish....it will help take away the pain of continuous sanding, fairing, sanding, fairing. I was wondering how you were going to do the other side... how about one of those portable canopies from home depot in the south 40 of that ranch - you have room!...Once the painting and body work is done, then the fun part is rigging and screwing everything together......keep the faith!

Luckily the boat still fits in the garage with the trailer so my game plan is to work on her out side and then bak her in the garage when I am done.

John R- That is a very good question. I never thought about the size of the trailer with the bracket add on. Hmmmmm. I do not know how a larger trailer would help as there would still be no support for the bracket as it is 3-4 inches above the bottom of the hull but I do not know.

Any one have any thoughts about this one?

Tom- did you get a different trailer for your Whitewater when you added the bracket?

Trayder ...you answered your own question. As long as the back set of rollers are close to the transom (within 6-12" of the stern of the boat), your done. Like you say you cannot support the bracket as it rises several inches above the bottom of the boat. You load the boat up the trailer that far and.....well you know the rest.

You may need to mess around with the balance/location of boat on the trailer since you've added 400lbs. 29" further aft of where it use to be. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I want to see some pic's too ! It feels great just to run what you spent soooo much time on , Enjoy it Fellowship you deserve it.And it sure feels good getting all those coments on the boat, doesn't it.People just notice these boats, don't they ?
I would say that adding a bracket will make you adjust the tongue weight, maybe even make you move the axle's, but shouldn't affect trailer oal.
I got a buddy who took his Bert to Montauk for a couple weeks and let me use his slip - I got to go toss some eels at rocks in a half hour - but last time this year I was probably mixing a pot of epoxy, which means KEEP THE FAITH BOY'S IT'S ALL GONNA PAY OFF!
