I just purchased a 1978 seacraft spectre outboard configuration for 500 dollars is that a good buy just needs a motor and needs a good cleaning.

Its a secptre 20 smoke windshield pedastal seats all the teak is there does anyone have any ideas on the ideal motor for this it has 2 year old Johnson controls in it, so Im thinking evinrude or johnson to save on rigging, also what type of trailer 3100 # single axle???? bunks or rollers???? only have to trailer about 1/8 of a mile to the Mighty Kennebec River!

I would think a 150 to 200 hp should do you fine. The nice thing is with the OMC controls you have the option of putting on a 20+ year old motor if you want (not sure about Ficht) that will match them. And as far as trailers go a single is fine, roller or bunk doesn't much matter in my opinion, which ever you can find a good deal on (I like load rites??). In these parts used trailers go quick. Good luck.

Couldn't tell you about the rigging other than the new Johnson 140 4 stroke is a Suzuki in disguise - but an excellent motor.

Don't get the bunks, your 12-14 foot tide would be awfull with a bunk trailer, get the rollers... And welcome to C-S!

Finster, the higher the tide differential, the tougher the bunks tend to get. It's not bad where I am in Rhody but in Boston with an 8-9' tide, it's easer with rollers and Maine is even more so

DAMN! I wish I had a 14 foot tide where I live ... Talk about fish holding current and structure, haw haw haw

Hey John R, didn't know that about the Uki and the Rude. I've always been an OMC man (until Ficht), but I got an suzuki 115 four stroke for my Aquasport 200 last year and love it. I am currently looking for a 23 Sceptre and put a floating bracket on an 2 Suzuki 140's. Should be a sweet combo.
I am trying to attach a pic of my 42lb. striper but can't figure out how.
