Tri-butyl-tin Paint Ban

....Whats everyone using to prevent growth on your inboard strut, shaft etc now that the paint has been banned. I have been using a spray type that contains about 12% TBT?? Any alternatives??

welcome to the site Pequad. I see you are from up north so conditions are probably a lot different up there than they are her. If you dont run your boat here once or twice a week then it doesnt matter what you have on the running gear, you will get growth. I have tried a lot of stuff in my time with most failing miserably. The best luck I have had was using a 2 part epoxy bottom paint from a boatyard, wait until it gets pretty tacky (depending on the outside temperature anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, then painting a high quality bottom paint over top of this. I still either have to go overboard and chum/clean the bottom with a scraper by june or july each year after putting back in the water by march. Also I have come up with an effective way to clean my shaft [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] . Since it is a 1 1/4"dia , I took a 1 3/8"punch , had a machine shop remove half of it so that it will slide up and down removing the barnacles and slime very easily. I attach a handle 2 or 3' long to keep the marine life out of my face-good luck-craig
