outboard engine weights
I did a bit of surfing on the web this afternoon to compare engine weights for the most popular outboards in the 135-150hp range. It would seem that regardless of whether you look at 4-strokes, direct injected 2-strokes, or other variants, a 25" shaft outboard is hard to locate under 400#'s in engines that are available right now. Some are actually closer to the 500# mark.

Re: outboard engine weights
the 135-150-175 evinrude fitch is a v6 and tips the scales at something like 409lbs. The Johnson 2 stroke carb 150-175 tips the scales at 383 lbs. They are both great engine, 25 inches and the johnson can be had for $7000.00.

Re: outboard engine weights
Reel Smoker,
Not sure what hp engine you are referring to. For comparison, a carb'd 1986 Evinrude V4 140 weighs 397# according to a dealer that I called. |

Re: outboard engine weights
My 1994 225 weighs 455lbs, the 150-175 is under 400lbs. Last year a dealer by me had 2 1999 Johnson 175's BRAND NEW for $4000 each. They also had 115 Fichts for $3500. Too bad they were 25" or my 17' Montauk would be one fast mommma!
