12" x 12" Bennetts with the "automatic retractor switch". The switch is a must if you trailer or your boat is picked up with a fork lift for in/out storage. When you turn the key off the tabs automatically retrac to the full up position

My 23' project is coming along nicely...had to hire a guy to do the glass work or it would never get done!! Got my bracket from Hermco and put it on the ground next to the boat like Finster!
I pulled the old tabs off and are planning to put in new but I don't like where the old ones were. They straddled the outboard lifting surface (inverted strake?). I would have thought it should go out to the edge (chine?) to get clean water flow. What is the correct placement for a 1976 23 cc? Tabman - just missed you at the boat show. Got a good eduction from one of your guys and he convinced me why your product is better. Bill If one is good then two are better. |

Generaider,I removed Mine & moved/placed them to the outer edge 1/4-1/2 " from the side Bout 1/4 " up.
They ork Much better than before.Bennett's are the way to go not only for the Tab's but the Personel support. http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/Ca..._Fin.sized.jpg Kinda gives You an Idea.Cut out for the scuppers.

I will second that service remark. I have dealt with Tom from Bennett making repairs to my system this summer and he was great. I am sold on Bennett.

Generaider, just as everyone else has suggested ….. I posed this exact question directly to Tom (tabman) awhile ago …..
I had asked about size and mounting options …. As I did not want to go across the lifting strake ….due to the variable deadrise. As I recall the first recommendation was for an 18” tab …as calculated on the website…hence what I wrote below From the centerline to the first lifting strake its about 15.5 " then to the next strake 14.25" and then to the chine 15.25". I also snooped around and found some other 23's with tabs. Basically they all looked to have a 12" span but some had a 9" chord and other a 12" (Seacraft 23 inboard and a 24 Silverhawk had the 12"). and to quote his response ….. “…..the 12" x 12" would be the better choice, it is more in keeping with our guidelines and the space that the strakes allow. If you choose the 12" x 12" you would be happy. I would suggest that the M120 will be a better choice. It provides about the same amount of lift as a 12" x 12' due to the fins on the sides. They capture water pressure that normally escapes out the sides of the Tab and channel it aft for additional lift. The M120s come with a Rocker Switch Control as standard, and the pre connected hydraulic fittings will make it easier to install. You can mount either the 12" x 12" or the M120 in 3" from the chine and run the Tab right up to the strake. I have marked what I mean on a copy of the photo you sent me, it is attached to this e-mail.” I would have to assume that these suggestions still stand ….. Tom is a great person to deal with … and helps in anyway he can |

Scott is right about the 3" from the chine. But Be aware that if you should go bigger than the 12"x 12" (not recommended) or mount closer to the centerline you could cause interferance with transom mount electronics when pushing your bow down.

Capt chuck ...so true about the 18" tab ..... That's what prompted the question to Tom .... and once I clarified the application with Tom about the SeaCrafts hull configuration ... with the steps in the hull's bottom changing deadrise angles .... The 12" was the max to go with

Just got off the phone w/ Tom and he felt that the lift is nearly the same between the M120 and the 12 x 12 and the M120 is easier to install. I almost went with LENCO because the design sounded simpler and less to install but my boat is going to be in the water all the time and stuff grows like crazy down here.
Bill If one is good the two are better. |
