SWEET RIDE!!!
It was soooooooo coooolll. Took my 23 for a ride tonight after the engines got tweaked ( 1 injector bad and the cut outshift switch sticking)I topped out at 40 kts, 100 gallons of fuel, 5200-5800 WOT. 17x15 props, twin 135 Rudes 2001 ficht sitting on Potter bracket.
One thing I found strange was that the boat ran best with the tabs up. As I trimmed up, the boat seemed to rise up - the spray moved aft - and the boat stayed level. It seems that the bracket is a giant tab under speed. Holeshot was best with the tabs down then trim up for speed. I was worried that the 135s would be under powered but now I don't think so. This boat skipped along at this speed and I wouldn't want to go faster How does this compare to other 23s? Bill one was good but two is the best!!! Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Bill,
First, congratulations for being smart enough to live where it's warm. -1 this morning while plowing the 12" of lake effect snow. It sounds like you hit the right configuration right on the money. The right combination of power, bracket, tabs, load/fuel balance is an enviable thing. Enjoy! [ January 09, 2004, 09:24 AM: Message edited by: Otto Cuyler ]

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Sounds like you havce got it dialed in fairly well.
I have a 1977 23 cc, which I just refitted, it has a stainless marine bracket with a 250 HPDI, and I top out at around 48 mph, without any trim tabs, which I will hopefully get soon. Good luck with your boat. |

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Hey Briguy,
My scuppers had been glassed over (thru the bottom)and I have been following the various threads about scuppers and have decided to jusat drain into the bilge for now. After constant wet feet in my 20 it is so nice to be dry. With 100 gals of gas the water line is about 2" up the side at the transom. I can stand on the platform and stay dry but the platform does go down to the water. Bill |

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Bill was nice enough to take Capt Chuck and I for a ride this past week and I was indeed very impressed. Anyone know of a 23' CC on the market out there that needs a total rehab?! I think I would put the same setup on one that Bill has

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Gene, My 78 CC rides best with tabs all the way up too. The only time I need them is to charge into a headsea or lift one side for spray reduction or balance. My 4s 115 suzuki's top at 37kts or so and I am happy with them. Does the potter bracket keep your scuppers up or are they under water? Thanks Brian

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Generaider,
Is your boat a gray CSY 23 SC with twin rude 135's? If so my buddy in Port St Lucie FL was checking it out. The boat sounded familuar especially when he said it had a bracket like mine.

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Hey Chris,
No mine is currently dark blue with white unfinished filler spots! I think you will like the ride when you get a chance to work on your boat. I got Don to make up better drawings than what I received and with those was able to install it. We used blocking wood to hold the bracket in place to mark holes and bolt up. The hole shot was great - the boat stayed level and just shot out of the water The 135 Ficht rudes have plenty of power - at least for me! How's the house doing? Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
I'd bet it was your boat. He said it had filler spots and I believe it had your name on it. He probibly got the color wrong (he's old and fat).
I am accually thinking of epoxying the bracket on my closed transom. That way there would be no seems and no place for water seep in between. Then paint it with the boat and it should look like it was molded on original.

Re: SWEET RIDE!!!
Chris,
I took the boat to Hermco to do some warranty work on the bracket for about a week. The people making the bracket tried something different that didn't work. Potter was very quick to step up and fix the problem for me. Don did very nice work. Are you going to use a single or twin engines? Bill One is good, two is better, My wife wants to keep both...go figure!! |
