Default my 20 sceptre transom rebuild

Got the boat inside yesterday to it’s final working spot. Wasted no time in cutting the inside liner from gunnel, across the splash well, and up the other gunnel. Will be replacing the wood in the transom with (?) and raising the notch 5” for my 25” motor. Cutting the liner was easy, removing the whole thing wasn’t. Didn’t sleep well last night, since I couldn’t “pop” the liner. Headed down to the boat at 4am since I couldn’t sleep. Had the thing out by 8:30. Basically, I had to take part of the transom with the liner. Thank God for the wet wood.

Getting that last few inches of wood out was a bear. I never thought it could be so stubborn. Would have been easier if I cut back into the stringer. I probably will during the installation, but wanted the lip there as a reference for the original thickness. I did have to cut out the battery box to gain access on the starboard side, but no love lost there.

OK, back to the freaking scuppers, I’ve got plastic ones in there now, but don’t know how well they work, or if they leak. Any one out there with an opinion on water coming onto the deck with this boat? I realize the weight distribution is a bit different than a CC, but I will stand in the back and fish. I’ve got some access to them now, what do you think?

Otto, did you say journey or nightmare?

EBEACH,

If I've gotten anything from this site it's encouragement. These are not easy projects. We all get a Gold Star for just attempting them. My errors to date have been many, but none unfixable, except unprotected intimicy with Mssrs. West, costing me perhaps a lifetime of Classic SeaCraft rebuilding.

If you take your time and do your best, there is no reason to lose sleep, Tom and I were saying the other day that it probably takes more balls than experience to do this stuff.

I've posted what we chose to do with the stupid scuppers (route to the bilge). But that's me. I'm not going to even replace the transom door for that matter.

It's a journey, for sure. And we're your crew mates...

Otto

EBEACH I know how you feel. I have have gotten more work done in the past two weeks then in the last three months. My hats off to any one here doing a big job. I finaly got my fuel hatch re cored this week cut the dash for the guages and switch panel and got the gas tank in the boat and all wires and hoses connected. I have been losing sleep thinking about the first fill up and if all my connections were tight. Filled it tonight and all went well it was only $89 to fill it. Still need to do all the wiring and bilge pumps but its down to small projects now. I could not believe the time and effort to do a nice job recoring the fuel hatch and its a small one at that, you guys with the 23's have you hands full. Just keep working and it will get to the point that its all comming together. I no longer look at "all" I have to do to get it in the water I only look at one job at a time and work until its done then move on. I did find my car keys I lost in November under he boat tonight when I left for the gas station that was a big plus Take lots of pics of the transom job. Also what are you using for resin? I've been hooked on West System for a while and just used up my third gallon this winter $$$ good ting I'm almost done! Good luck and be gald you can work inside. My electric bill is going to be of the wall this month running my heater in there so much, spring is just around the corner!

EBEACH-

Congrats on removing the inner liner section of the transom. I can not wait to see the project within the next few days, I hope.

As for your scuppers, I would suggest routing a drain hose from two new cockpit drains on each side of your aft deck, add one way valves to the drain hose and exit out the transom. cover the transom exits with Raboud cone style ball flaps

Cockpit drain-------check valve------exit/Raboud

GemLux

Ask for their catalog 90% of what you are looking for will probably be in the catalog. All Stainless Steel products at more than reasonable prices.

Perko also makes the same cockpit drain but in 1" hose fitting and it is self closing, has a check ball to keep water out.
