Default 1974 23 CC I/O

Hi everybody.

Bought a 23 cc with a 5.7 liter mercruiser (1996 approx 275 hrs.) with a bravo 2 outdrive and I'm thinking about selling. Engine and outdrive are fine but need new belts, a tuneup and it wouldn't hurt to install new risers. Boat needs some work - has 2 soft spots in floor, the usual gel coat cracks and crazing any 1974 boat will have, and I tried to dry transom (not too wet) and bored numerous holes which I don't have time to fix. Also the guy who owned it before me had a thing about attaching "things". I removed numerous holders, brackets and the like and pulled out several dozen screws that did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They were just there. ????? I also removed the rub rail when I started repairs but I have it all. Boat honestly needs about 4-5 grand of work (or you could send it to METAN Marine in Mass. and have it made new for 12-15 thousand if you want to spend that kind of money. Actually I was going to do just that because I always wanted an older 23 in showroom condition.)

She was fishing when I bought her - I got it from a seacraft dealer who -get this- had his choice of new seacrafts, whalers and other new fancy jobs but used this 23 to fish for sharks 20-30 miles out.

Make me an offer - if it's good enough we can talk - just please don't insult me with the offer. Make it reasonable 'cause you're buying my boat and my dream. AND REMEMBER - I'm CONSIDERING selling. By the way, I'm in suffolk county, long island NY and if I decide to sell to you, it's "as is" and you pick it up.

Oh ! One last thing. Please don't ask me why I'm considering selling. No tricks-I just don't want to get into it.

Thanks.

HI RWM, I'M INTERESTED IN YOUR 23',BUT JUPITER FLORIDA IS A BIT OF A STRETCH. BY THE TIME WE BOTH GOT HAPPY WITH A PRICE,SOMEONE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM YOU WILL OWN IT. BASED ON MY SEARCH DOWN HERE,I THINK YOUR'S SHOULD BE WORTH $5000 TO $8000. I'VE MISSED 2 DIFFERENT TIME'S NOW ON 2 SEPERATE BOAT'S THAT WERE IN GOOD ORIGINAL CONDITION READY FOR THE WATER/FISHING W/TRAILER FOR $9000 TYPICALLY BOAT'S LIKE THAT ARE IN THE TRADER FOR $12500 TO $18500,AND SEEM TO BE SELLING FOR 11K TO 15K.I, LIKE YOU, ARE LOOKING TO BRING ONE OF THE GALANT OLD GIRL'S BACK TO HER ORIGINAL CONDITION. THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT BRINGING ONE BACK TO LIFE THAT I CAN'T SEEM TO SHAKE.IF YOU'VE GOT TIME, I'LD LIKE TO SEE SOME PICTURE'S.
THANK'S LT DAN
P.S.YOUR NOT SELLING YOUR DREAM,IF YOU FOSTER SOMEONE ELSE'S

LT DAN

Your probably right on the prices - they're a bit higher up here 'cause ther aren't many around. And to add insult to injury I willingly over-paid because I wanted her. Actually I was thinking in the 8 range - but again you're right - the distance is a bit much.

I wish you the best of luck finding your baby. You sound like the kind of guy that will cherish one of these fine boats and take care of it the way she should be taken care of.

I sincerely want to thank you for your kind words and wise philosophy - you really made me feel better. I was actually a bit choked up when I wrote the posting last night but maybe it will work out somehow.

Please keep me apprised of the results of your search. I don't know if you ever owned one before but I've been through a 1975 18 footer (utterly fantastic - I fished her out as far as 40 miles when I was young, dumb and a lot braver) and a 1988 20 footer (not as good but still heads and tails over the competition - by that time Bill Potter had sold out and I think Bass Tracker was building them) I know that the 23 is the ultimate small CC and you will be more impressed each time you go out - and so will your buddys. Especially if you ever get caught in six and seven footers like I did one day in the 18.

Again my best wishes and thanks for the reply.
