2 Stroke to 4 Stroke for 18ft SC
I have a 78 18ft seacraft. Right now I am running a 1994 V6 150 Rude on it. Its a gas hog. Whats is the biggest 4 stroke I can put on her keeping the weight approx the same? Does anyone run a 4 stroke on their 18? Thanks.

Re: 2 Stroke to 4 Stroke for 18ft SC
There is a member on this site from the Virgin Islands that has a 140 Suzuki 4-stroke on an 18' and seems very happy with it. That engine is just over 400#'s depending on shaft length (have you raised the transom from 20" to 25"?).
I used to have a SeaCraft 18' with a 140 Evinrude on it and the Texaco unleaded dealer loved me |

Yes the transom has been raised to 25in. The guy before me was going to put a 200 on it.

If you go with a johnson or suz. you might as well go with the 140. The 90/115/140 are the same engine. You may want to check out a 115DI or OPTI outboards also.

Re: 2 Stroke to 4 Stroke for 18ft SC
Hey Flateline, i too have an 18' SC but i have a 175hp Rude and it is a real gas hog but runs like a scolded dog. Im looking into a new motor also but im prob going with the 150 Ficth or one of the DFI. I want somthing that would keep the weight down and the HP up while still get better Fuel usage. Dont see much benefit to getting a smaller 4stroke. just my $.02.

Thats what I was kinda thinking. Maybe a 150DFI or HPDI. I like the speed too, but definately want the better milage. I would like to get 150-175 mile range out of my boat.
