Default 23 Tsumani / Sceptre Deck cap removal

Anyone out there with a comment about trying to remove the entire deck cap on the 23 Scepter? I'm thinking of doing this to make the transom replacement that much easier. It will also give me better access to the fuel fill hose that needs to be replaced.

Do I run the risk of not being able to put it back together? Will the hull blow out of shape once the cap is removed? I'm not trying to remove the inner lining, just the cap which includes the foredeck.

Would Bill Potter know this?

Thanks.

Well it's a done deal now. I'm about 3/4 of the way into the transom project (removal part). The boat is not on the trailer, it's resting on stands.

More pictures are here TheBoatZone Thank you John R!

Ebeach - have you tried to put the cap back on? I remove mine the other day and then tried to reattach the deck . . . after 6 hours or work the sides had relaxed quite a bit??? I really had to put my shoulder into the side of the boat to get the cap back on.

No, not yet. I hope I don't have any real problems. The 23 has an additional liner to hold it up a bit more (I hope).

I'm having problems with tendonitis in my right elbow. I had to stop work the other day because I couldn't swing the hammer any more. They used a lot of decking putty to glue the original wood transom in place.

Dave, yes it really was no problem. Sure was a lot heavier than I thought. I did it myself, but almost busted my gut. I used a hydraulic jack on the foredeck.

I just got back from the boat where I've been making a big push on cleaning out the transom. The grinder got plenty of use last night and today.

Ok, I got the cap back in place. No problems at all . the 2 sheets of 3/4 ply are in place but not glued in. I was just checking the dry fit, and wanted to make sure everything would fit before the resin is applied.

So far, this is a great way to get at the transom, without cutting into the finish of the boat.
