I was receantly given a 20' 72 SeaCraft Pacer(found that name on instrument panel)the owner had it winterised and stored in a yard and it sat for 14 years,he was getting to old to put it in & out of water and wanted to get rid of it, I never had a boat before and liked the looks of it so I checked and it is solid no rot, transom stringers & hull are in great shape,he used it in fresh water and always trailered it,My question is all the boats I see on this site are open, mine has a cabin with a head, a mecury 140 sterndrive,Was this a standerd model? does anyone have any info on it?? the boat is in remarkable shape for its age, took a lot of scrubing was covered with tree sap, motor is original and after squirting oil in cylinders & having carb redone it runs great no smoke, is this a good boat for a novice ?? I have since had it in the bay at OC.NJ.a few times with no problems except starter is acting up and found a small hole near top of timing cover, losing a few drops of oil (covered it with epoxy till I get a replacement) guess it would be wise to change chain at same time.

Sounds like you have a good find. Not sure if it's a Seacraft though. I never heard of the "pacer" model, not that that means much since I'm no expert. Check out the info at www.classicseacraft.com to see if your boat looks like anything there. The real givaway is the variable deadrise hull configuration. Look over the original patent for a good explanation.

It looks like the Seafari 20 with some slight differences to the interior.

Frank,
Welcome. You have a 1972 20' SeaCraft Seafari I/O. I have a 71 exactly like it. Forget about the "pacer" term as it does not apply. Terrific boat. I think it's an ideal boat for a beginner if it's in good shape and mechanically dependable. You can pretty much count on 2 things: soft wood in the transom and/or cockpit floors and outdrive mechanical bummers. A good evaluation and corrective measures will be well worth it, though. It's not like you paid too much.

One big problem here is that Frank doesn't have a 1972 "HDS" decal yet.

I want to thank all that replyed for the help with identifing this boat.
Capt Chuck I'm orderng two for now, letter is in the mail. As far as soft spots on transom and other places, I cant find any,I did have a marina check it and they told me it is solid, they were also the one that mentioned that it was a potter,(had no clue what that was & they went no further) and would take it off my hands if I wanted to get rid of it,but that only made me dig a litle deeper to find out what it was !!! Thanx again...
