The newer SeaCraft's have the in-deck livewells in the stern. Here's my question: does anybody elses livewell fill with sea water thru the overflow outlet ? Mine does and I don't know why or how since the water has to travel up to do this. I can leave the dock perfectly dry, fish or cruise for a bit and the live well is at least half filled. Its just annoying, nothing major but I don't know why. Anybody else with a 21 that has this issue ? By the way, my previous post about my Optimax problem has been resolved- turns out it was a combination of a coil and the poppet valve which I never heard of but apparently when defective causes water to be pumped into the cowling . Running great again.

I don't know where the overflow is in the hull but it sounds like the water is being forced in the thru hull while running.

I have a 21' and mine does not do this. Are you sure the thru hull valve is closed. If it was though I believe it would fill the well entirely and not only half way. Also are you sure it is not just water that got on the deck? That is what I don't like about it, any splash or rain water will drain out both the scuppers and also into the livewell. I wish the livewell was under the leaning post. What engine do you have? Mine is a 200 Merc EFI and I would love to know what the performance would be with a 225.

The well does fill up entirely, I wasn't clear enough in my post. I am not aware of any way to close the overflow port. I totally agree with you about the livewell location. If I had my choice, I would much prefer a leaning post livewell - that way, it would stay dry and clean until its needed. Presently, every time it rains or I wash down it fills up- I always drain it and prop it open so it stays dry and free from algae.

The next time you are out check the well and see if it is empty before you begin running. Then check it while you are running and see if water is coming in thru the fill hose. If it is coming in then the cut off valve under the pump is open or not shutting off. You do have a cut off don't you? It may have been left off at the factory. If water is not coming in while running then check to see if it is comning in when off plane. This is the only time it could come in thru the overflow hose because while running it is impossible for water to come back thru it.
Have you seen the leaning post/livewell combo option on the 25'? That's what I wish I had. It looks like it would fit even in the 21'. Good luck. I hope you find your problem. |

I have an 88 20' Seacraft and I have the same issue. My issue was solved with a new set of scupper flaps for the drain holes in the hull. I dont know if I am wording this correctly and perhaps should take a few pictures tos how you. But when I first got my boat, the back of the boat used to fill with water filling the livewell and then overflowing. When I starting moving all the water would leave the boat but the livewell would still be full. It turned out to be the hull scuppers in the floor. I replaced the flaps and the problem went away. Hope this helps
