Maiden Voyage

Yesterday afternoon put my seacraft in the water for the first time since I bought it. I've only had the boat a month and had to make some small repairs/additions (gps/sounder, risers, trim angle indicator, high water alarm, anchor mount, new brakes on the trailer, and a survey for insurance reasons) before a sea trial in the salt pond. Did not really know what I was buying at the time. What a out standing boat! Did about an 1.5 hour sea trial then fished for 3 hours. Boat ran 38kn at 3700rpm. 4 barrels come in at 3100rpm's. Pushed the tabs down a little and ran a neutral trim angle and the boat had a awesome ride! Fished the 3 island at CBBT and came home with a limit on stripers. Nothing big out there yet the water was is 67 deg.

Very cool! Thats a sweet ride. You really scored on that one. What'd the surveyor have to say? And whats the redline on that motor?

Pretty work there bandit, sounds like you are another satisfied seacraft owner!!!I saw a 23 with full enclosure coming out at owls creek on thursday before dark, that wasnt you was it????(nice job on the rockfish !) [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

That first run in a 23 is a nice feeling, huh? [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] Sceptres have a fairly neutral running angle due to the added weight of the windshield and deck, so the tabs are really only needed to level a load port to starboard. Surveyor said the boat looked garge kept. Had a surveyor from hattaras come up and look at it. Buddy Foster is his name and he came highly recommended. Red line on the engine is between 4200-4600 according to specs. in book. Don't really see any need to push it that hard. The boat sits a little low aft because 7.4 fwc eng. and out drive. Has any one ran the deck drains out the side and plugged the floor drains?

Hey Miles, it a light green one with an outboard on a bracket? If so, I know who that is, but I can't seem to remember his name offhand right now. Those damn curtains stay on all year for some reason.

I can't say I know anyone thats done it, it has been talked about some. I can see why you would put them there being you have all that weight in the stern with nothing like a hermco bracket to remedy it.
I think it would work fine provided your outside drains don't go above you deck level. You'll have to be critical on your measurements and if the water line is above deck level on either side where you intend to put them, then it's not worth doing.

Did that make sence to anyone???

I know it can be done since my father's '82 has the scuppers running out the transom. Granted, these were installed by the factory, but you can re-route them.

Looks like Miles Offshore probably PM'd you about the "Vortex", which seems to be a quick and easy solution to your problem without re-routing the current setup.
