Default 23' Tsunami - re-attach hull to topside

I noticed that the SS screws all along the toe rail, holding the topside to the hull are leaving rust stains on the inside of the liner wall. It made me think of pulling the rub rail off and replacing them all ( they are almost 30 years old! ).

The question(s):

Should I replace with SS bolts instead of screws? Larger diameter bolts ?

While there, should I dig out the old caulking and replace with new ? If YES -- what kind of caulking ?

Thx,

Alan

Man, I'de give anything to be able to get to the inside of the hull sides on my boat!

To answer your questions:

YES...YES...YES...and 5200.

Use machine screws so you can countersink them to allow the rubrail to sit flush against the boat. I'de drill out the holes just slighly and size the machine screws so you can push them through the holes with just a little bit of force. Put a dab of 5200 under the screw head before you tighten it down to seal the hole. Use stainless washers and nylon lock nuts on the inside.

Good luck.
