cuddy
I am interested in buying a 1978 20 ft sceptre. I have two friends who are very knowledgeable with boats who have told me that this cuddy is rough riding because of being so far up front. I have since changed my mind because I just don't know if I should pull the trigger on this project...I fish out of a 23 sceptre and it rides very well....Anyone have any input on the 20 sceptre or even a 20 safari on owning one and on the ride of these 20 cuddys .........Thanks

Re: cuddy
Hi Maek,
I think you would do very well with a 20' Seafari, I have owned one for a almost a year now and have been very happy with its performance. She runs very flat in all sea conditions and I have had her out in pretty rough weather, she performed great! I do suggest you do your homework and check out the transom and floor but I think you will be happy with one.

Re: cuddy
Meak, I have a 20 Scepter with a 135 Merc on it. Bimini, cushons, porta poti, assorted gear, no trim tabs but do have a dowle fin This boat rides awsome and handles the sea great! I dont know how many times I have braced myself for a wave to slice right through with no pound. ( my wife even stopped wearing a sports bra in this boat!) I wouldn't shy away from a 20 if it fits your needs. Scotty.

Re: cuddy
I think you need to find a captain that has driven both the CC and the cuddy on the same or simular day ... Any out there?
My guess is the CC being aft more would take less pounding, but i added trim tabs to my cuddy that made a huge difference! For me, i love the dry cuddy storage, so i will tradeoff the ride ... if there is any? Let see if others have some facts .... - Nick |

Re: cuddy
Thanks for the replies.. I definitely want a 20 cuddy, so I will not make a decision on their valued takes on the ride, although their stories are strikingly similar and they do not know each other.. I don't think the ride is anything like the cc but I am in agreement with you guys about the reasons for the cuddy.....Is their a difference in the Sceptre and the Safari ride to speak of??????

Re: cuddy
We owed our seafari thats for sale on this site for about 18 years. Having a cuddy has worked great for us. Keeping my mother warm and a place for the head. having the windshield keeps you warm on the cold days. Trim tabs all the way, we dont have them but that would have been the next move if we didn't decide to down size. I never minded a little pounding but could tell trim tabs would have solved it.

Re: cuddy
May not be much difference in the Sceptre and Seafari rides but the 20 Sceptre isn't a cuddy, its a closed deck with storage compartments. If you want a true cuddy you'll have to go with the 20 Seafari.
good choice either way though. Dave |
