23' Prop Recomendations
First off, I have been reading this forum for a while and have really enjoyed it. One day I would like to restore a Potter built 23. This is my first post:
I have a 2000 23 SeaCraft with a 225 Optimax. I am only getting about 5200 RPM's out of it. I'm just wondering what other people on this forum are spinning on their boats. Input from guys with any brand motor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: 23' Prop Recomendations
I have a 225 EFI Yamaha 30” shaft and I run a 17” 3 blade my back up is a 18” 3 blade. I have 350 hrs on the motor but only have run it wide open for approx 1 or 2 minutes of time at full throttle I got 5200- 5400 rpm’s which was good enough for me. Usually run her at 3800 rpm’s at approx 28-30 mpr. And 8-10 gpr at those numbers.

Re: 23' Prop Recomendations
Is the 5200 rpm's with the engine trimmed properly. I have a 2003 21' SC with 200 merc and it tops out around 5200 with engine tucked in but trimming it makes a huge difference and ups it to around 5600.

Re: 23' Prop Recomendations
My 2000 Merc 225 EFI max's at about 5200 to 5300 as well, I've got an aggressive 3 blade on her. I can't remember the pitch off the top of my head, but I can go find out if you like.

Re: 23' Prop Recomendations
I have a 225 Opti on a 73 center console. I'm getting 5300-5400 with a 17" aluminum prop.
