Default Honda outboards

The postings show very few Honda outboards (200, 225, 250) being used. Is there something wrong with them? I believe Honda invented the 4-stroke... -- Thanks for your comments, aaf

Yes, The honda 130 weighs 505lbs vs the Suzuki 140 at 406lbs. The honda is also much more expensive.

They are heavy, expensive and ultra reliable. The reputation that 4 strokes have for reliability was built by Honda since they've been around since 1973, selling only 4s. Everyone else is a johnny come lately by comparison. Time will tell if the others are as good or better.

To the best of my knowledge, the largest Honda is still 225HP. The 225 is very reliable, good on fuel and of course quite. The only downside to the Honda is that although they are very reliable, they are a little sluggish getting on plane and are not as fast top end as a typical 2 stroke 225. Thier performance is much like a Yamaha 225 4 stroke. I think the actual hospower rating is well below 225HP. I know Yamaha has addresses this with their new 250 4 stroke and they have plenty of power, in fact many people with relatively new larger center consoles are selling them to get the same boat with 250's.

Does anyone have a Honda 225 on a 23 CC without a bracket? If so, how does the weight affect the waterline at rest and the performance?

I know a local fellow that has an early 80s 23 with a 225 and no bracket. He's a comm fisherman. Loves the motor, squats a little, great on fuel but not gonna win a race...
