Transon repair

Looking at a 20' Potter. Owner says he filled transon with liquid filler and then metal plat acoss the transon. Is that the correct repair?

If he used Gits Rot, all it is doing is prolonging the
inevitable. Which means slice and dice on the transom.
Remove a screw from IE: trim tab, transducer, ladder, etc.
If any thing weeps out. Not a good sign.

I would like to think a properly restored transom would NOT require a "plate" (recored and glassed).

It almost sounds like he used a product like Seacast. I dont know if products like this require a plate. That is something a surveyor should have a look at.

I vote with Scott.
If it needs a plate it's not right.
It needs a real transom rebuild.
There is lots of info and people willing to give advice on this site for transom rebuilds.

The transom is not a bad job, maybe you can knock him down a few K on it. If the guy insists that the transom is good, tell him he's full of crap and walk away.

I don't think plates are put across transoms for cosmetic purposes.
