Default Leaky thru hull question

Guys-

I believe I have seepage occurring at the thru hull located in the forward fish hold are on my 23. The previous owner replaced it once with a nylon assembly that slid together and joined in the middle somehow.

Anyways, have any of you had to replce this piece due to seepage problems? I have to believe that this is where I am getting water onboard.

Your thoughts on this are appreciated!

Hooper-

I thought you sold your boat I saw you had it listed on the hull truth? and it was sold.

whats up with that

If I am not mistaken this thru hull was originally brass and flared on each side, the type that an expandable plug goes in?

If it was and the previous owner replaced it with plastic I think you should rip he plastic one out and go back with a brass tube. You can get the tube through McMaster or some local marine stores. You can flare it with a flaring tool or a ball peen hammer.

If I am off base here, whoops.

Jason,

I had a friend contact him about the boat when it was for sale on THT. BTW, I loved the cetol marine tratment that Hooper had done on his boat.

My friend was told that the boat was sold. If Hooper did not seel it, and it back for sale I know someonw who may be interested.

Mine was plastic from the factory. It was cracked and showed signs of leaking. I replaced with a Gemlux S/S thru hull fitting. Because of the constant flex in that area I will be keeping an eye out and reseal with 5200 if necessary

Guys-

Yes you are right, I had a deal in place this winter. Took a deposit and everything. But after quite some time it became obvious that it just wasn't gonna happen. I gave back the deposit and told the guy to come see me when he was ready. So, I figure I'll continue with the projects I wanted to do this winter anyhow and we'll see what the spring holds...

So it this a standard sized, off the shelf type of item I can pick up anywhere?

I have an original thru hull in the foward fish hold of my '72 and it is cast bronze with a threaded cap on the inside to seal it. It still works and doesn't leak.-PF

Hooper,

I had the same leak in my 23. We removed the brass threaded thru-hull, drilled the hole oversized and filled it with West 2 part. I replaced it with a standard brass treaded fitting embedded in 4200 and tightened the sh*t out of it.

I am not sure if I understand this thread. Let me get this straight, we are talking about the forward deck storage hatch on a cc23. Right? If you have seepage why would that matter? Water comes in and water goes out. There is no place that water can get into the hull since it does not drain into the bilge. My main concern it the deck hatch does little to keep rain water out. I have tried weather stripping with some limited success.

My front drain hole is usually plugged with a rubber plug from the inside. The hole is above the waterline when docked. When on plane with the hatch open there appears to be no leakage. Mine does have the plastic thingee but I am going to leave it alone for now.

Water seeps around the fitting and between the hull and fish box liner and gathers in the bilge. Enough seepage and the boat sinks.
