HeadLiner
Anyone know of a good source for headliner material? And any info in regards to putting it up?
I just started ripping the old id/od carpet out of the seavette. What a MOFO.

Re: HeadLiner
Dude,
You need to replace it with some crushed velour and hang a couple black-light Elvis paintings in there. |

Here is one distributor and I would use the stuff called hulliner. That is what we used in Mr. Potters yellow 20'. http://www.garysupholstery.com/marine-upholstery.html |

Turn the boat upside down using two A frames and a minium of three 1 ton chain hoists......... |

Re: HeadLiner
Finny- buy 3 or 4 yds of some marine vinyl. Here is where i buy all my supplies. (high but they deliver to my fronty door). The cheaper the vinyl the more forgiving it will be as far as stretch goes. Get a good waterproof spray adhesive/contact cement as stated above.
1) after all your old "carpet " is removed, wire brush clean/scuff up the surface . 2) try and use a template to get the general idea of the size and shape piece of vinyl you will need and cut it out.(mark a center line on the inside of the fiberglas and the inside of the material to keep it lined up when you are sticking it) 3) tape some newspaper around the edges so the glue wont get on and spray a coat of glue over the whole area inside. Let it dry a few minutes 4) take your piece of vinyl and spray an area a couple of feet with glue the width of the cloth across.(let dry a few minutes) Using some help carefully line up your marks ensuring you will have enough material to glue up both forward and aft, stick it in the middle and work outboard just a footor so on each side of centerline. . Try to let the material stay relaxed (dont stretch it allow it to lay naturally. So now what you have is this big piece of vinyl hanging from the overhead. Now take the spray glue and first get the centerline glued in both forward and aft (area about 2' wide)by spra glueing the vinyl itself , allowing it to set up for a few minutes before sticking. After that is all complete then come back and repeat the process for working the material out port and starboard until the whole area is covered. Replace any trim , then cut off all excess with a razor knife and wala. Really not to bad a job. craig

Re: HeadLiner
Craig, thanks for that, and that was my thoughts as to go with vinyl, but after pulling the old stuff off (like two pit-bull's playing tugOwar with a baby bunny) I've found the surface very rough with lots of screw head all over the place. So, I don't think vinyl is going to be an option.
I talked with the folks Don referred and they recommended the same. They even have the "Velvet Elvis". And yes DH, proper lubricant was applied.
