1999 suzuki
hi guys, here we go, my brother has a 1999 225 suzuki on a 1978 ma seacraft and when he first takes off it runs fine, and after alittle while it goes into low reduction speed,(or idle)and won't go any faster,it does give an alarm, sounds like a bad sensor, but not sure, any input would be great, thanks mike,

Re: 1999 suzuki
I had a Yamaha that did that, it basically was overheating. The safety features won't let them motor speed up until it cools at that point. I am no mechanic though. I would guess it is an overheating problem, hopefully you just need a new thermostat and water pump!

Re: 1999 suzuki
Serg - iboats might be your best bet . . . The alarm will usually give you a clue as to what the problem is . . . Does he have a manual?

Mike - Take a look at this thread off iboats. Read down about 1/2 way.

Re: 1999 suzuki
Check all fuel filters, there is a hidden cone
filter on the back side of the silver canister inside the fuel hose. |

Re: 1999 suzuki
I have a 1998 Suzuki DT 225. Scott Potter from Viking Marine does a major tuneup on my engine almost every fall and has fixed the following on the motor over the last few years:
1) pressure relief valve installed upside down from the factory. 2) Replace thermostats 3) Replace inline gas filter...aka "trash filter' 4) Put some loctite on the screws that hold down the fuel pumps. Mine had loosened up over the years and were causing a lean coughing condition. Other than these minor items....it has been a very reliable motor. |
