Hello all,
Just took my maiden voyage in my '73 20 footer (previously known here as 'Abe's Rocket). I have never been so impressed with the ride of a boat in my life. Couple of questions: What in the name of Pete is the deal with the plugs? I thought the previous owner just had a fetish or something when I first bought it. I found out quickly that every single one of them had a home once the boat was in the water. ![]() Secondly, how does the cockpit "self drain?" I found that if I didn't have plugs in the scuppers aft of the lean post, that I was taking on water like the Titanic. What happens if you take a wave? How is she meant to drain? Sorry if these are oft-answered questions. Thanks, Mike

Seacraft 20SF's are very sensitive to a heavy motor - if the weight in the stern is not more than about 400 lbs the deck drains work fine. I've never had an issue and never have plugged my deck drains. That said I've moved the battery and the oil tank forward under the console and have used a Yammie 130 and presently have a Johnson 175 2S carbed motor.

As mentioned move as much under the console as possible, see the vortex thread for easy to make scuupers

How do I find the vortex thread? I did a search for vortex and nothing came up.

My 23' I/B used to take on a bit of water when two or three of us would stand aft, so I installed two of the ping pong ball scupper valves and no more water.
