Ethanol has struck again. My boat ran beautifully the first trip out, and the second. Then I put 6 gallons of new fuel in to top off the tank and that is when the sputtering began! I posted about it here. Well I was at Nauset marine yesterday to replace my fuel filters and mentioned my problem. When I mentioned putting in a tank of new fuel he just shook his head. He said that was my problem. The new fuel with ethanol, acts like dry gass and separates the water etc from the fuel and gums everything up!!!!!!! He informed me that I would need to siphon my tank and then add new fuel. He said adding fuel would not get rid of the crap. I guess the marina is having all kinds of problems with ethanol. So run your tank dry before adding new fuel!!!

SwampYankee,
Thanks for the advise. Any idea when the new fuel was integrated? I've been working on my boat for 5 months now and the last time I put gas in her was November. |

Gator Bait,
Here in MA it was rolled out back in March. I believe each state is different as to when the E-10 gas was made available. |

I just got a note from Ryders cove about what they want you to do concerning Ethanol.
1 DO NOT mix E-10 and old fuel use up your old tank before filling with the e-10. 2 carry two or three spare filters for your water seperator/racor 3 boats older than mid eights do not have alchohol rated fuel fill vent and feed hose and they need to be replaced. 4 e-10 starts loosng its octane after 14 days, use of a NON alchohol base fuel stabilizer all the time is recomended. 5 buy your fuel just before your going to used the boat so its fresh dont fill the tank and let it sit for two weeks before using it. All in all of you have an older fuel system your gonna have problems. If your not prepared. Get a good racor fuel filter and hope forhte best! Good luck Jon

All,
FWIW, see http://www.flyfishsaltwaters.com/ubb...c;f=5;t=002730 They have been talking about E10 issues on this site and reel-time.com for some time. |

I have to admit this whole E-10 thing is scaring the crap out of me - already running a Racor, and have an older Johnson carbed 2 stroke, which supposedly handle this better than newer fuel injected motors, but think I may need to go thru and replumb the entire fuel system, just to make sure I have alcohol rated lines in the fill, vent, and feed.
I'm not a happy camper about all this - oh well !!! Bill |

What a pain this whole thing is. John, thankfully my gas tank was replaced in 96, so I should not have a problem with the vent lines etc. I also heard that was a problem from Nauset Marine.

Just an FYI,
I just finished re plumbing my boat from the tanks to the engine, supply side only, no vent or fill tube. The boat is an 86 and the tanks are date stamped 82 and the supply lines to the motor did not look that bad. I replaced anyways but a little good news never hurts.
