Default What year is my 20? Can anyone tell me.

I have a 20 I/O that I am restoring and turning into an outboard. So far I have cut out the deck. My question is how do I tell what year my boat is? I understand that the stingers changed between 1969 and 1970. My boat has no plate with a year and the numbers on the outside of the transom are worn so bad that I can't make them out. I would like to post pictures but I don't have my own web site. If anyone can tell me the difference in stinger design between 69 and 70 it would really help alot.

Well, my first thought is that, the hull number molded into the back of the transom started, I believe, in 1972 - before that was a little data plate mounted somewhere inside. So if you have a molded in hull number, you're somewhere post '72, and the stringer question you posed is not then relevant.

others may have more insight, though.

exactly what oldbluesplayer said. ANY numbers on your transom, no matter how worn, places your boat at '72 or later. A graphite rubbing will often bring out numbers you can't discern by eye.

As far as stringers, up to '71 had four stirngers (small, about 4" wide) whereas the '72 and later had two large (12" or so) stringers. At least that is what I have noticed in a few that have had there floors redone locally.

I would like to thank oldbluesplayer and ikan besar for answering my question. However my 20 has hull numbers molded on the outside of the transom and it has four stringers which are about four inches wide. I will try and get some pictures posted to further clarify my question.

Your title or registration should have the correct numbers
on it. Florida has it on both.
Good luck, Ken

PS: My 70SF has 4 foam stringers and no hull ID.
I went to an engraving shop and had them make several
phenolic ID plates which I placed in different locations
through out the hull during rebuild.

Well, I just bought a 1969 20 ft seacraft. She seems to be in good shape, esp. for a boat that old. This owner bought her from the original owner in 1970 and has owned her since. As stated in an earlier post, there is a plate in the splashwell with model and serial number. Nothing on the transom. I'm going to fish her as she is to get a good feel for what I want to do then go to work on her in the fall. So I'll have lots of questions then. Here's my question for now, though. This boat is driving my insurance guy crazy. The top of the plate says Seacraft. The model simply says 20. And then there is a 3 digit serial #. I'm sure I need to look for someone who deals strictly with marine insurance. Any ideas? I have tried the search feature on this forum but I don't seem to be a ble to find relevant posts. Am I doing something wrong there?

Sonny go to www.progressive.com and input all your info, I got a very decent quote and bound coverage within 15 minutes-1969 20.

That's weird . . . I was convinced that my project boat was a SF with a MA cap. Now I'm sure of it. The stringers are the 4" and the title says 1970 with a FLZ reg.
