thru hull
Hi guys
Been lurking for a long time, but have had few questions or comments. I guess I have been lucky with minimal problems on a much used boat. I own a 23 sf 1979 that was redone 5 years ago, since then I have added a seamark bracket(best thing I ever did). thanks again to don at hermco. I have a leak in my thru hull in the anchor locker and was wondering if anyone has any experince with replacing these. It looks like the interior portion was just puttyed in. I was wondering if there is anyway other than cutting access hatch thru floor of anchor box to get to hull in this area to put nut on thru hull. Thanks in advance and sorry about my inactivity on boards. Bill Bowers |

Re: thru hull
Ha Willibe
Are you talking about the area all the way up in the bow under the cap and in front of the large hatch in the step up bow deck, casting deck? If so when I opened up my boat there was a drain hole there to remove any water build up. I left it there and did nothing to plug it up. Re: thru hull
Fellow Ship-
Thanks for the reply, I am referring to the hatch and compartment on the raised deck section. This is where I keep my anchor, my forward thru hull drains this area. Thanks Bill |

My '78 CC (probably just like yours) That area was designed for a fishbox with overboard drainage. I also keep my sand anchor in that space. "Problem" Mine was a screw type plastic thru hull and had developed a small crack (time & stress related) There was water intrusion thru this crack into the bilge. "FIX" I took out the inferior plastic thru hull and replaced with a SS Gemlux model, Sealed with 5200. I will continue (because of stress & time) to monitor this thru hull as well as other thru hull fitings (seacocks, bilge drain, scuppers etc) for leakage under a normal maintenace plan
