Biggest Striper yet!
Only managed 10 days on the Cape this year. Did not manage to meet another member, though I did have the priviledge to meet two classic owners launching at the same time at the Wellfleet Public Ramp. Charter guy with a late model 20 CC and a new owner with a 77 20 MA. Neither was aware of the site, but each was an enthusiast.
Four trips aboard a 27 Grady. Unlimited assorted sized bluefish. Never got boring, but sometimes the action was constant. Only three aboard, rotating all three positions. Have to say, I was a little out of practice. Embarrassing the first day pulling 150 yards of wire, jigging, trolling umbrellas, and even throwing plugs to the schoolies up top, when the opportunity presented itself. Carried 7 rods up, a gaggle of tackle, yet the first day I fished the Captains equipment. Ever have one of those days when everything you touch BREAKS? And of course, all of my sh!t was on the hill! Fortunately I fished with this guy a few times last Sept. and I had a few more trips to 'get it together'. Had what appeared to be the first large Striper hit, and the juices began to flow! Overset the hook on what felt like a fire boot and broke the wire one inch from the backing! Yeah, he was impressed. After many, many bluefish I boated a 42" bass that tipped the scales at 35# the next day. I'm glad I went up single because this Captain is like many of us here. If the fish were biting we were not coming in. Gotta love it. Think I may have had two days of rain, never broke out the jeans, and wore two fleeces. Raked clams and ate shellfish like a king. Surf fishing was spotty. I don't bait, nor night fish so I guess I'm limiting myself. The Race was hot with bluefish and schoolie bass in the mornings. Still early surfing the Jersey Shore, but did have some fun with the blues. Weather was perfect, and trip was awesome. Some hefty unregistered trailer and speeding fines but I guess I should have expected that going round trip to Jersey with a Jersey Skiff in tow. I believe this is my largest Striper to date, slightly out weighing last years while fishing Va. Beach aboard the Miles Offshore. Thanks again, Craig. Vezo, Part II. |

Re: Biggest Striper yet!
Mike - nice work! How many beers to get that striper?
Vezo 1 and 2 and I toasted a 24 pack and caught ZIPPO off Hilton Head. Those were some nasty chum bags. Can't you cut out an entire floor of a 20 with a 24 pack? I'm think I'm bringing the new 20 to HHI. This time we catch fish!

Re: Biggest Striper yet!
Thanks guys. Craig, you were right about the camera but it has been missing now for awhile, and did not make the trip. I think everyone here knows that I can't post 'em anyway. lol. Have to get on my buddies website to see the photos. Sorry 'bout the Bad Movie. Now Otto, what's up with the new 20? Sounds bad when you have to leave her until next light?!? Wow. Hey next time you're here I am thinking we will ALL wear PFD's. No crap. Also, just had the Jersey Skiff completely reworked. Everything new from the block back. Ought to get another 600 rev.s out of her. Y'all come back now, Ya hear?!? Later, Part II.

Re: Biggest Striper yet!
you shoulda seen the stripper blitz i just got back from. Just outside plymouth harbor birds and stripers everywhere. it was about 3:30pm and fished till dark and probably caught 40 fish by myself. untill dark came and couldn't see the birds anymore. just schoolies, biggest about 26 inches but man what alot of fun on ultra light tackle. Wish i had a fly rod!!! before i left the pier the baby bunker where everywhere where i keep my dingy and threw one cast net and had half a 5 gallon bucket filled. in the livewell they go and i couldn't be stopped out there. Man that was fun. maybe some bigger fish down deep but i didn't bother. Just a perfect night, no wind, 65 degrees, a great sunset and a few cold beers.

Re: Biggest Striper yet!
Tis the season!! I've been hitting 19 to 25 lb. bass every night out here, and I'm off to the Cape Cod Canal and then Narragansett for a couple of days, then to Montauk for a week or two to look for something bigger. No boat; as much as I love my little fleet, my favorite is still fishing from the rocks at night!
