Mercury Vintage Racing DVD
Has anyone seen this DVD?
http://www.screamandfly.com/home/pro...ercury_dvd.htm The DVD supposedly covers the 1968 Bahama's 500 - seacraft boats placed 1st and 2nd in the twin outboard division. The DVD, titled “Vintage Films, Volume 2, presented by the Mercury Film Archives” features almost two hours of transferred 16mm film footage with the original commentary from Lake X testing, races, marathon runs, and over twenty commercials – most presented in their original color. The collection is divided into seven chapters which contain the following: “50,000 Miles by Outboard” – Mercury’s Mark 75 Lake X endurance marathon.| “Seine Insanity” – Hundreds of outboard engine powerboats compete in Paris, France at the Seine River Marathon. "World’s Fastest Outboard” – Carl Kiekhaefer receives the “Man of the Year” award after the Mercury Mark 75 sets a new outboard speed record in 1958. “Racing Champions Afloat” – Inboard hydroplanes compete feverishly for the Silver Cup at Detroit’s Yacht Club. “Winnebagoland Outboard Marathon” – 285 outboards competing in one race at Riverside Park in Neehah, Wisconsin. “The Bahamas 500” – In 1968, offshore race champion Odell Lewis takes you on a tour of the boats, the engines, and the strategy that makes champions at the Bahamas 500 Offshore Race. “Vintage Commercials” – Twenty vintage Mercury commercials from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. |

Re: Mercury Vintage Racing DVD
Just a reminder how bad ass these Seacraft boats are . . .
The Bahamas 500 is the granddaddy of all powerboat races—a 589-mile suicide circle around the islands starting and ending at Freeport Grand Bahama. For most of the 37 boats in last week's 500, the race ended elsewhere. Driving rain drenched the crews, and visibility was down to zero as fierce squalls kicked up 5-ft. swells. Florida's John Heinrich was only 30 miles out of Freeport when waves ripped the deck off his 26-ft. Alim outboard. Between Chub Cay and Nassau, the 24-ft. Nova inboard of Miamian Allan Brown ran out of gas, then wallowed helplessly in the wash for more than four hours while rescue planes searched for it. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,841354,00.html http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,840909,00.html |

Re: Mercury Vintage Racing DVD
I had no idea they still ran these races! I have some research to do on that subject and the DVD looks like a purchase in the near future.

Re: Mercury Vintage Racing DVD
RE: Bigshrimpin The photo of the SeaCraft race boat #31 with 2 Mercury motors is a SeaCraft 21' "My Flying Machine" Driven by Carl Moesly. Co-driver is Frank Brown.
The photo of the SeaCraft race boat #31 with 3 Mercury motors is a 23' SeaCraft driven by Carl Moesly with Co-driver Frank Brown. The 1st Bahama 500 race had 92 boats entered and only 16 boats finished the race. Three of them were SeaCrafts. They took the 'small boat award'. |
