I really dont have much room available in my bilge to install a thru hull unless I yank the motor back out - that aint happenin, lol. Just looking for opinions- actually my transom mount 99 dollar special works ok but i like wreck fishing and i think i need to upgrade!!!just leary about shootin thru the hull. Jim? Chuck, Anybody?

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
I just installed the Airmar B-60 on my OB powered 23'. Major pucker factor drilling the hole! My first thru-hull and I would highly reccomend the performance!

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
Just a question here as i can't tell from these pictures...Unless you install a fairing block on the underside of the hull to keep the transducer shooting straight down won't it not show what is directly below the boat?
I made a highspeed fairing block for mine and cut it to match the deadrise of the hull where i placed it. I then used the opposite side of that block on the inside of the hull to keep everything point straight down. |

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
The Airmar B-60 has a tilted transducer element in the unit. You buy the specific model based on the dead rise of the hull - they make different degrees of tilt for different hull dead rises. That's the great thing about the B-60.. I love mine - works great at all speeds. Although as mentioned the hole cutting process is a bit nerve racking..

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
Yes, The element is tilted, 20 deg in this case. I made a 6" x 6" x 3/4" epoxied plywood block for inside the bilge to spread the load a little.

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
Don't these B-60's only work with specific manufacturers?
Is there one available that works with Raymarine sounders?

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
It seems easy enough to look up, just go to the Airmar website and search and use the cross reference guide. So it looks like they only work with Simrad fish finders.
The guys that are using the B-60, you have Simrad or something else?

Re: 1000 watt in hull transducer
CSICKNICK has the M-260 shoot thru the hull transducer in his 20' Seafari. We call it "big bird"....
