Lake Ontario dumps on Central New York (snow porn)
Most of you are now aware of the Great Lakes unique "lake effect" where condensation from the huge, warm lake get's picked up by super cold artic air and converts it to kick-ass snow. This week parts of Oswego County in Central New York on the Southern shore of Lake Ontario, recieved over 100" in 7 days. It's not exactly ski country...
I drove up to Oswego, about 60 miles from my home in Rochester. We have not recieved a lot of snow, but it has come contiuously for the last 2 weeks. The plow was on the truck 10 of the last 10 days. While we had some sun peaking through trying to melt the driveway enough to see some blacktop, Oswego contiued to get heavy large flakes. The first images are of the Sodus Point, NY lighthouse, a former home port. Oswego is another 30 miles east. The images speak for themselves. I saw CNN and The Weather Channel getting some footage. The towns attitude is "Oswego Snow - No Problem" and spraypainted it into 8' high vertical walls of snow. They have the equipment to manage nicely and keep pretty much everything open for business. The inventory of snow removal equipment is impressive. This type event in typical for these people and they don't understand all the attention. Oswego is no Anna Nicole... Compared to Katrina, mudslides, tornados and fire, as Acts of God go, this one is just "notable". I do hope you guys in warmers climes appreciate what we work through to get those SeaCrafts back in the water. At least we don't have Manatees.

Thanks for the picts, I grew up in Buffalo in the 70's and remember those "snow days". Down here in the sunshine state, I got a little sunburn working the grouper and snappers last week. I will take the sunburn over the snow every day .
