Helm seat bases

I am looking to add a fiberglass type seat/storage base and then install conventional ladder back seats onto the base. Does anyone know of suppliers for these type of fiberglass bases. I am lookin for a unit similiar to that installed on Chris Downeys Scepter as shown on the gallery page

I built my own out of starboard with a refrig and 3 drawers toward the front with back to back seats on top.just on the port side. I'm thinking of doing something on the starboard side. Chaz '78 23 Secpter

If you end up building one, may I suggest a built in LED or other low level red or orange coutesy light being added. Down low, they will give off a light across the cockpit sole without too much interference with that all importnat night vision. The factory bases have a liner with an overboard outlet, though they are not sealed at the top to the outer covering of the base, so the inner liner would need some glassing attention if your thought is to use them as a livewell.

Sorry to respond late to your question - was away for the long weekend. My port seating arrangement was originally the factory-issue "sleeper" seat. It was a back-to-back seat that folded down into one long bench, or lounge-type seat. It never really worked well, so when the vinyl need replacement I junked the seats, kept the base, laid a 3/4" starboard "shelf" on top, then mounted the two Pompanette ladder-back chairs on short pedestals.

Chris, Thanks for the info! Any info on the base for the starboard side would be appreciated as well? You're boat looks great and I use the pictures whenever I'm thinking about an upgrade. Thanks again for the help. Love to get together and look at your boat in person. I keep my boat on the cape.

No problem. The starboard helmseat base was/is the original factory "camper" seat. The same Pompanette ladderback chair is bolted directly to the base (no pedestal). The base is actually the lid on teh fiberglass module. Flip the "lid"/seat assembly (it is hinged on the aft end with a piano hinge) and underneath is a sink. Originally, there was an alcohol two burner stove mounted to the underside of the lid, so that when closed, the stove fit into the well formed by the sink - when opened, it was in the upright position. I'm sure my words here are not painting a crystal clear picture. In any case, got rid of the stove years ago and now keep 4 Plano tackle trays in there along with some other small stuff. Underneath it all is general storage and also where I mounted the reservoir/relief valve unit for the Hynautic hydraulic steering system. More than happy to show you the setup - my boat is stored at Ship Shops on Bass River.
