Default 2000 Evinrude Ficht 150hp??

Guys, Just beginning to dig deep into my first 20' SeaCraft restoration and starting with replacing the hubs ont he trailer tonight. I also have a lead on a 2000 Evinrude Ficht 150hp. I've heard so many bad and good things about these, as well as having to index plugs and whatnot. Any personal experience with these? The guy is selling a pair of them for 4K and let me know he'd get rid of the standard roatation for $2500. Do you think it's a good deal? Ran in saltwater, flushed every time(so they say) and have 400 hrs on them.

Thanks in advance for any help. Or is anyone looking to offload a long shaft 150-200hp under or around this amount toa young SeaCraft enthusiast?

Iceboy

1. Are you 100% sure it's a 2000. What is the manufacture date stamp say on the side of the motor?

Which computer does it have? If it's an aluminum finned computer under a big plastic shroud . . . RUN RUN RUN.

If you call Bombardier with the serial number they can tell you what updates have been done. The most important ones were the pinned heads, injectors, and water cooled computer.

Check out DFItechnologies.com for more information? You can get the software and cable through them.

Also when you get fed up with the high maintainance requirements of that motor like the $10 spark plugs ($10 each) that you have to index properly . . . which takes about 10 plugs to get right . . . the $20/gallon oil . . . and decarbing every 50 hours, There are kits specially machined to convert the motors back to carbs using Yamaha ignition components and looper carbs. You could also find a fully dressed Looper Oceanpro powerhead and bolt it on . . . then sell off the FICHT parts.

Yours Truly . . . former 1999 150hp Evinrude FICHT owner (only had 163 hours when I sold it in 2005).

P.S. - I spent more than 163 hours trying to get the motor to run right. Including a few hours alone stranded . . . on a seacraft island.

You deffinately have to make sure it is a 2000 and not a 1999.

That being said, my dad has twin 2000 150's on his hydrasport and has had no trouble with them.

Bigshrimpin is correct.....the plugs do cost about 10 bucs a pop.

With regard to the oil: Find a marina that buys the oil in the 55 gallon barrells, and then bring in a mini gas can and have them fill it up for you and you pay less. This way, you don't have to pay the high prices for oil. Since the engines barely even use any oil, you won't be buying it that much anyways.

To be honest, me and my dad have nothing bad to say about them. They've been great for us. Good luck with your purchase.

p.s. get it inspected by a certified technition before. Have them plug the computers in and they'll give you a whole printout about how many hours are on them, and what percentage of the time they are at each level of rpm's.

PM me . . . The problem with the aluminum finned computer is that it overheats and craps out. I'd be driving along at 4200rpm . . . and wham . . . just cuts out. No codes . . . nothing!! I wasn't about to sink anymore money into that pitt so I sold it for $2500 with a computer/software/2 prop/manual and engine stand + full disclosure of the issues with the TPS and the Computer. Only 163 hours on the 3rd powerhead. I put on a 1981 2.4L Mercury v225 and I have no regrets . . . It get 3+ MPG too at cruise.

I have a pair of 2001 150 Fichts on a 23 Regulator, and could not be happier. I had one small overheating issue and thats it over the last 200 hrs of operation.

OK enough running around for you, here is a dealer for 30 yrs that has no dog in this fight and had a 23 and his partner( Mario who will probably answer) just re-did a 23 and both will be at the WC SeaCraft Fest, they can be trusted. Call Mike at American Marine in Tarpon Springs, tell him where you came from and who sent you 727 938 9796, he will tell you the truth and not blow you off, honest.

Guys, Thanks a ton. Once I get back in contact with him I'll follow your advice on all counts. In the meantime I'll keep looking and try to get some pics up. If any of you remember the SeaCraft I bought was on Ebay a few months ago for $1500. It never sold and I picked up the scraps. She's totally stripped. New hubs went on the trailer the past two nights so she's not rolling on the rusty old bearings.
