Brackets?
I am a new seacraft owner. I am very excited about owning an older seacraft and have a million question on my mind about them. One question is what are the advantages of having a bracket versus just a transom mount? I have an 86 seacraft with a notched bracket and will probably have to do some work on it in a few years. For now I am just going to ride around in it an have fun. The projects will be my next move.

Re: Brackets?
Makes the boat "act" 2' longer/bigger, the full transom prevents a wave from hitting the floor (hopefully), the swim platform is nice when getting back in the boat from the water or if you need to pull the cowl on the engine.

Re: Brackets?
fishingjoey,
Interesting thread over on the mako site. Post is by a dtmackey (he sometimes posts here) and it's about his re-build of a late model, DI Evinrude. In his opinion, the moter's problems were due to salt particles that got into the engine and he makes a direct correlation between this problem and engines on brackets or on hulls with euro transoms. |

Re: Brackets?
Sounds more like the motor cowl seals leaked.

Re: Brackets?
dcobbett-
Good reference point on dtmackey's research. Could the salt mist settle inside the cowling only @ the lower cylinder level or is it a seal on the cowling letting water in, like Reelescape suggested. My money goes with the settling salt mist, after getting the techs from BRP's comments. The Merc's I have get a bunch of salt on the powerhead from being offshore(Armstrong Bracket).
