Baitwell
The previous owner of my 23 footer has sealed up the hatch of the baitwell. I would like to use this hatch but I am worried about it collecting water? Should I just leave it alone or is there a way to use the baitwell as something else?

You are better off using an on-deck livewell. By having the in deck one open, you can get water coming in through the scuppers and eventually into the bilge, sinking the boat. That being said there are some 23 owners who have got that well to work. I defer to them.

I moved mine forward where the newer SeaCrafts have theirs. That tank holds a lot of water and that extra weight all the back there is not a very good spot now a days with the heaver motors that we use. If you are wanting a project and do a lot of live bait fishing I would remove it from where it sits and either put one under the leaning post seat or do what I did if you can.

I uesd mine just fine in the 18 and 23, although the 18 had a 115 inline Merc which is lighter than anything today. I also plumbed up to one of the small storage boxes on the stern for a dozen baits so you didn't need to get in it as often. I also don't think it would be wise with twins on a 23, I had a V8 Rude, heavey but not as much as big twins.
